I think Corvette doesn't get enough credit for its practicality.

Was driving my C8 Z06 through the canyons today and it was absolutely phenomenal. Have driven quite a few high-end cars and the Z06 is right in there with some of the best I've driven.

However what I actually like most about the car is how easy it can be when you're not driving spiritedly.

-Steering radius is great, makes parking lots a breeze.

-Suspension is comfortable on basically any road and especially the highway.

-Tech just works, and you have plenty of modern amenities

-Plenty of storage between frunk and trunk

-The car feels just as happy cruising around as it does being pushed hard.

-The car isn't so rare/precious that you have to worry about something happening to it.

-Top comes off no matter which flavor you get.

I know sometimes Corvette's practicality can take away from its "specialness" but I cross shopped, 991.1 GT3 and 2017+ NSX before getting the Z06. Yes both of those alternatives are a little more unique and "special", but the "getting to the canyon" part is where the Z06 really shines as an option and I think that's an area that Corvette doesn't quite get enough credit for.

To be honest the V6 Hybrid Emira might be just what Lotus needs.

So I'm a bit of Lotus fanboy, but like many Lotus enthusiasts it can be hard to buy into the brand/car when it just doesn't make sense.

I'd say the Emira is definitely one of those cars for me.

The Toyota V6 is great, but it's almost "why not get an Evora?". While I love the Evora it's not like the V6 blows anyone's pants off, it's an engine that sounds great but doesn't feel like 400hp at all.

The 4 Cylinder AMG seems pretty nifty, but it's hard to spend close to $100K on it when you're in striking distance of a C8 Z06 or a Cayman GTS 4.0. at that pricepoint.

I think the V6 hybrid will help give the Emira the performance chops to better match its chassis capability and beautiful design, plus it gives the Emira a more unique powertrain for its class.

There's (2) things that I think could ruin this for Lotus.

-If they fumble the transmission (saying the words "4-speed automatic" does not sound promising). But if they can get the transmission to be as responsive as a ZF in a modern BMW "M" car it'll be fine. I'm hoping this 4-speed business was just for China and that they're really eyeing something with more gears for the states. Or I'm hoping they figure out a way to approximate something with more gears despite the Emira only having 4 actual gears.

-If they go psycho with the price. Keep the Emira in the $100K-$120K range don't go psycho with the price. Seriously if this thing is in the $120K range it's a serious contender for a lot of folks. If they put it at $140K-$150K it's getting cross shopped with used McLarens, used R8's, and decently specced Porsches and Corvettes without the typical Lotus problems. $120K or less makes the Emira an actual enthusiast alternative, above that pricepoint and it's just a bad decision.

For me if Lotus gives the ability to drive this thing around in EV mode (even if its just for 4 miles or so) I think that'll be a huge party trick and something that would really sway me to buy. I currently own a C8 Z06 and its city MPG is dreadful. So not instantly jettisoning fuel accelerating from a stop would be huge.

Anyways! I like the idea, hope Lotus nails the execution. The Emira is a beautiful car and I want to get one, but I can't justify one with its current price-performance ratio.

I own a Taycan GTS and recently got a C8 Z06.

The Taycan is an awesome driving car and in buying one I was curious what the difference would be between more of "mid-level" brand like Chevy and "upper-level" brand like Porsche.

So far Porsche hasn't really been holding its own.

Porsche Service

-Basically always have to schedule an appointment to be serviced.

-Even though I schedule an appointment, service advisor is 20 minutes late (what's the point of an appointment then?)

-$1600 to change the cabin airfilter and bleed the brakes on my EV every 20,000 miles or else my warranty is void.

-If I want a courtesy car my appointment gets pushed back (3) additional weeks until a courtesy car becomes available

-Even when requesting a courtesy vehicle ahead of time (with the additional 3 week pushback), half the time the service guys are acting like I'm lucky to get one.

-Every time I've taken the Taycan in it's been in for no less than (5) days (hence my push for a courtesy vehicle)

-Upon receiving my Taycan from my most recent service, I find out that they forgot to reinstall my frunk trim pieces and now I have to bring it back.

Chevy Service

-Show up first thing in the morning without an appointment, and seen basically immediately (despite 5-8 cars being in front of me).

-Had to take car in due to dash bubbling, car is out of warranty by a couple of days. "Sir we'll have no problem pushing this through for you"

-Car's ready the next day and would've been ready the same day had it not been for a small part needing to be brought in.

The Porsche dealerships do look a bit nicer and I will say the sales experience on a Porsche feels a bit better as a whole (better product knowledge, not pushy at all, happy to let you drive quite a few vehicles). But honestly in terms of service Porsche is not exactly trouncing the Chevy experience quite the way I think it should.
