Impact of demarcation from RBC

I received a letter from RBC that they don’t want to do any business with me.

It was my fault. I was an employee and engaged in outside business activities that led to code of conduct disclosure related concerns.
I’m not contesting that and had resigned earlier this year.

I always paid my credit card payment before due date, my account was always in good standing, have credit score 850+

I do regret making the stupid mistake of engaging in other business but it is what it is now.

Since RBC now sent me a letter a few months for not looking to do any business, anyone aware what’s the impact of demarketed? Any guidance?

[CAN-ON] Any HR Compliance member here regarding background check issues?

I’d really appreciate views from anyone who may have experience in HR compliance or operations.

I was offered a job at a Big 5 bank. The background check company, Sterling, couldn’t verify one of my past employment because my past employer denied confirming. They send my report to the bank as “Not clear” and they revoked my offer as it was conditional to satisfactory background check completion.

When I received the background check report and noticed that one of my past employer was not verified, I provided all the docs to bank to prove my employment. But they said we have revoked based on many things. 2 days later, Sterling updated the report saying all sections “Clear”.
When I asked the bank to review their decision based on the updated report, they denied and said we do “several” background checks and not rely just on Sterling report.

What other checks do they do? I know that they can’t reach out to individual people from my past employers due to legal concerns, Sterling already verified my identity, credit check, criminal, employment and educational - and all came clear.

Can anyone suggest what other background checks is this bank referring to?

Bank Blacklist exist?

I was speaking to an employment lawyer and he said that he has “heard” that there is an informal black list of people ineligible for rehire that is circulating within the big 5 banks. He said that he can’t confirm that. And he specifically said that he is not referring to “informal” connections between bank people, but a list.

Anyone knows if such list exists?

Edit: I think I asked the wrong question. My bad! What I’m trying to understand is if the banks share their own “ineligible hire” lists with other banks?

Time to come to CIBC?

Is there external hiring happening in CIBC? I currently work in RBC and have strategy and digital transformation experience for 15 years.
Tried submitting applications online and also reached out to some folks but dead silence.

They won’t accept RBC folks or there is not much external hiring happening?

Resign on short term disability

I encountered a severe medical condition last month and went on STD leave. Manulife was trying to reach me but I was hospitalized and couldn’t connect with them.

I continued to get paid though.

However, my medical condition is such that I can’t manage alone anymore and I’m relocating back to my home country (I am an immigrant) and won’t be returning.
I am planning to resign while on STD. But since I never could speak to Manulife for my STD claim, what happens with my resignation? Will there be any issue?

Disability Insurance (through employer) history

Hello, I hope someone can guide me here with their experience.
Last year, I was on short term disability (STD) a while ago. And my employer had partnered with Manulife for STD benefits. My case was assessed and Manulife found me ineligible and I didn’t receive pay (but that’s a story for another time).
Since then, I left that employer and joined another one earlier this year. I had to go for short term disability again last month for some other issue.
My current employer is also having STD benefits with Manulife.
My question is does Manulife see that I had applied for STD in the past through my first employer?

Extension for short term disability submission possible?

Hi guys, unfortunately I encountered a medical condition lately. My doctor gave me note to be off work for a few months.
My manager referred my case to Manulife for Short term disability leave. They tried calling me but I never received their call. So they mailed me the forms which I’m yet to receive.
However, mid last week, I received an email from them saying that the form submission is due.
My question is that I’m not in a position to speak on call due to my health condition and my doctor is aware. But I can email/text.
I responded to Manulife email that I’m not in a position to talk but they insisted that they need to to start my process and said the forms are due for submission.

I wanted to ask if they can extend the timeline for submission? Has anyone be able to get the extension ever? What shall I do?

If they deny the extension, what can happen to my case apart from not being paid salary?
