Hello men in their 30s, Congratulations! You are still young, but that will very soon change. Your body is about to start changing. Your metabolism slows, your energy dips, and if you're not careful, your waistline grows.
The good news? You can do something about it now.
I'm a 51-year-old woman, divorced, mother of one, and sister to five brothers. I played sports through my early 30s and have bike-commuted in NYC for over 25 years. I never exercised because I wanted to age well—I did it because it was fun. Looking back, those habits are probably why I've stayed fit, active, and, according to most people, youthful-looking.
The choices you make in your 30s show up in your 40s and 50s.
Look around. Too many middle-aged men haven't just gained weight—they've lost muscle, their posture has suffered, and they often look older than they are. By contrast, a lot of women the same age have held up remarkably well. Part of that is because women have spent our entire lives hearing that our appearance matters. Fair or unfair, many of us have made exercise, healthy eating, skincare, and self-care part of our routines for decades. The results are visible.
Men can do it too. Just look at gay men. Middle-age gay men look good. They look damn good because they are catering to other men, who are visual (just like you). As my gay bestie once told me, “we give each other a quick glance, and in two seconds, we know if we want to f\*\*\* you.”
Women are visual. Maybe not to the same extent as men, but attraction still matters. A fit body, good posture, and an active lifestyle signal more than good looks—they signal that you haven't given up on yourself.
Here's my dating reality: I date men my age when I'm looking for a relationship, but I often date men in their 30s for something casual. I'd love those worlds to overlap, but the number of healthy, fit men in their 50s is surprisingly small.
So do your future self a favor. Lift weights. Ride a bike. Play a sport. Whatever you enjoy, make it a habit. Your body, your health, and your future sex life will thank you.

SF50 here. I turned 50 this year and have started wanting to date men, 50 and older. But one thing I’ve been seeing, and completely turned off by, is men over 50 posting about their high libido’s and their desires of wanting passionate sex on their profiles.
In total transparency — for the last two years I had been dating men in their 30s. These men messaged me and their profiles tend not to be explicit about wanting sex. Maybe they just had good game and didn’t need to be outright about this. I casually dated these men, knowing that I wouldn’t want a long-term relationship with someone younger. Which is why I now want to concentrate on men over 50.
But what I have been seeing has been gross. Not their pictures, their bios in which they mention sex. I love sex and I’m passionate about sex, but it’s a turn off and so immature to see a man at that age immediately post about it.
Why do older men do this? Younger men usually don’t.
