My parents (both 72) are moving to FL next year, how can I help them pick the correct place?
Hi everyone! Hoping for guidance here. My folks are finally pulling the trigger on the FL move next spring. They're looking at 55+ communities around Fort Myers/Naples and are leaning toward something with amenities they'll actually use (pool, pickleball, the whole deal).
I'm trying to help them ask the right questions before they pick a place, especially on the HOA side since they've never lived in one. They've been in the same Ohio house for 35 years and everything has just been their problem.
They've already toured a couple of places with their realtor and the management companies on the listings are different at each one (Folio at one, Sentry at another, a national one i can't remember at the third). I have no idea if/how that should factor into the decision.
So what do you wish someone had told you about HOA living before you moved in? Does it matter much which management company runs the community, or is it mostly about the board and the community itself? Any other questions to ask before they commit?
Any and all advice welcome, they're great parents and i want this chapter to be a good one for them :)
