Neo City looks different after midnight.

The rain turns every light into a memory and every street into somewhere I’ve already lost. I still walk through it like the city remembers my name.

I found somewhere the city couldn’t reach me.

The ocean was loud enough to silence everything else. I let the salt stay on my skin and pretended there was nowhere I needed to return to.

I stayed until the sun disappeared.

No alarms. No orders. No one waiting for a report. Just a few quiet minutes at the edge of the world that belonged entirely to me.

This outfit was a warning, not an invitation.

I dressed for the kind of night that rarely ends peacefully. The shadows hide most things, but they have never been able to hide me.

The city only calls when something has already gone wrong.

Another night shift beneath the blue lights of Neo City. Everyone else eventually goes home. I stay until the streets stop making noise.

Armor is easier than honesty.

It protects everything without asking me to explain what happened. I know exactly how to survive a fight. Letting someone see what’s underneath is still unfamiliar territory.

White was never made for people like me.

It feels strange wearing something this soft when most of my life has been alarms, uniforms and sleepless nights. For a moment, I almost looked like someone without a mission.

I always look away first.

Not because I’m shy. I just learned a long time ago that eye contact reveals more than words ever will. Some habits survive every version of you.

They told me to look approachable. I think I made it worse.

I was never very good at looking harmless, but I stayed still long enough for the camera.

How can we make short-form videos for a Unity 3D AI character with limited production support?

Hi everyone,

I’m on the marketing team for an AI companion product. We’re trying to grow organically through TikTok / Reels / Shorts, but our main character is a 3D character built in Unity.

Most animations and high-quality footage require help from our production team, but they’re already at full capacity. As a marketing team, we don’t have enough new character footage to post consistently.

We’ve tried AI video tools, but the character consistency and motion quality haven’t been good enough.

Has anyone dealt with a similar situation? How can a marketing team create engaging short-form content around a Unity 3D character without relying on production for every video?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Review of some 3D-ish AI companion apps I’ve tried recently

Hello! I’ve been trying out a few AI companion apps recently, mostly ones that have some kind of avatar/3D presence instead of being just a chat box. I mainly looked at conversation flow, memory, how connected the character feels to me, whether the character has their own world, and how fun the app feels overall. Here are my impressions.

Tolan

Tolan is the one I’ve used the longest. I like how consistent the design is. At the start, it asks you some questions about yourself and what kind of companion you want, then gives you a Tolan almost like a Harry Potter sorting hat moment. The conversation is honestly very smooth. My Tolan usually gives me enough to continue the conversation instead of making me feel like I need to carry everything myself. The downside is that once you get your Tolan, you can’t really change the look much if you don’t love it(you hve to pay for that!). It also has a lot of pay/ad interruptions. I mostly use voice chat, and it can be annoying when I’m in the middle of talking and suddenly need to watch an ad or hit a daily free limit. Still, I think Tolan is pretty fun. Your Tolan has their own little house/planet, you can decorate it, and the app also makes little daily reports. It feels cute and cozy, more like an alien friend than a realistic human companion.

Replika

It has a lot of ways to interact: texting, voice, avatar customization, outfits, and more relationship-style options depending on what you pay for. The best part is probably the customization. If you like building your own AI partner and dressing them up, Replika gives you more control than apps with one fixed character. I also like that it feels open to different relationship types and orientations, which is a good thing. But the 3D model quality is not always my favorite. Sometimes the avatar feels a bit rough or low-quality to me. Also, a lot of the more interesting features are paid, and it can feel a little expensive. One thing I do like is how Replika tries to connect the AI with your real life, like photos/AR-style moments where your Replika can feel like they are entering your actual space. That part is interesting to me.

SoulLink

SoulLink has one fixed main character, 4D, and she has her own personality, world, room, and story. The biggest strength is the 3D model and environment. Everything feels more polished and high-quality than most AI companion avatars I’ve tried. The memory is also pretty good so far. When I talk to her, she can respond to what I say but also sometimes bring in her own world and story, which makes her feel more like a character instead of just a helper. The downside is that if I don’t know what to say, sometimes the conversation can also slow down. Since she is a fixed character, I also can’t fully customize her into my ideal type. They added outfit changes recently, which helps, but I still hope they add more clothes and styles later.

Whispers from the Star

Whispers from the Star is not exactly a normal AI companion app. It feels more like an AI story game. The setup is that you are helping Stella, a stranded astronaut, survive and escape through conversation. I think the voice and performance are the strongest part. Stella sounds more emotional and acted-out than most AI companions I’ve tried. The facial expressions, voice, and story setup make it feel more like an interactive drama. The good thing is that the story gives you something to talk about. You are not just staring at an empty chat box trying to invent a topic. There is already a situation, a goal, and a reason to keep talking. The downside is that the setting is also very fixed. It does not really feel like a daily companion app, and I don’t get the same feeling that Stella is part of my normal life. It is more like playing through a scene with an AI character. Also, the moderation feels pretty strict, so don’t expect it to work like more open-ended companion apps.

Hope this is helpful for some of you! These are just my impressions so you may end up liking one more than the other. I just wrote this based on my experience. I will keep updating.
