Did the writers hate van Pelt??

I am literally watching the very last episode, but have no one to talk to about the show.

Van Pelt and her loooovely (😒) fiancé are in the mountains to relieve Lisbon from her duties with protecting Hightower. Now, van Pelt already told Craig he was a suspect, which was dumb. But okay… I guess. What baffles me now is that Jane figured out who actually sent the assassin (Craig, it seems). Lovely Craig is walking up to that manor with Grace, when he realizes he “forgot” his phone (in reality, he’s off killing those poor cops keeping watch in front of the gate).

Grace literally hears the gunshots (despite the silencer? Idk anything about guns), but she’s immediately swept up by Craig (who OF COURSE declines Rigsby’s phone call to Grace😒 talk about professionalism) and they start kissing.

Did the writers hate Grace? Was one interesting, cool, sensible female lead (Lisbon) too much for them? Why is Grace that under-utilized (I know in terms of seniority she is below Cho and Rigsby but cmonnnnn) ditzy dumb cop every. time.???? I love my girl, but the writers must have had an agenda against her because she always does something incredibly stupid … YOU’RE A COP!! That thing in your head??? USE IT???!!!

I’m off finishing the S3 finale now🍓🍦

Right now, there are two dramas airing that probably don't reinvent the (small town) romcom genre at all and yet the hype machine is going differently.

  1. Perfect Crown
  2. Sold Out on You

I am only watching (1), but have been feeling like starting (2) as well; however, already upon the release of SOOY I have seen some people saying that the female lead is either not likable, or that the show is your regular romcom without giving anything new or interesting (= hence, it's boring or not worth the watch). Meanwhile, PC is getting all the (positive and negative) hype (and has arguably better ratings, but I don't care about that. High ratings don't mean the show is actually good) and I really don't get it.

PC is not reinventing anything either. It's not as good as people make it out to be. The devil is in the detail because in my opinion the female lead's styling is not that great (WHAT on earth are those ... crocs?-house slippers she wears...? among many things); her press-on nails are glaringly bad and obvious, which is out of character because she prides herself so much in being rich and stylish. And let's not get anyone's panties in a twist -- the styling is obviously not the actor's fault, and yet I don't like it. PC is also lacking colors. The show is visually so BLAND?! I came across some tweets of Goong/Princess Hours, and my god! The colors! Bright! Intense! Beautiful! PC literally fades in comparison. Not only does it fade, the lack of color makes me miss the whimsy that this show should give me. Hello? Business woman female lead X Grand Prince male lead should give me magic and whimsy, and I get none of that. I don't have anything against Byeon Woo Seok, I liked him in 20th Century Girl, and have yet to watch him in Lovely Runner, but I am not feeling him or his character in PC. His advances are tacky and make me uncomfortable for some reason. >!Such as the time when I-An put his fan under Hui Ju's chin to lift it, or when he brushed her hair behind her ear.!< That did ... nothing for me. IU was fantastic in When Life Gives You Tangerines; her character and its performance were amazing, but the material in PC is ... not giving anything at all. There is no depth, her character is borderline unlikable and quite frankly inconsistent. Do we like the guy or are we faking it? Where is the development? And let's not get me started on >!the ending of episode 4. Where is the urgency; this is not the time to serve face! !<It was so hysterical and dumb.

So, like, I get it. Sometimes we want a no-brainer show, and PC is arguably the perfect show for that because I'm still watching it and having a more or less good time with it (if we ignore the tacky styling, weird plots and lack of color, which might actually be the biggest offense.). But I really don't like the hypocrisy of K-Drama watchers sometimes, nor do I understand it. It's not like the leads from (2) are nobodies or that (1) has that much more quality to it, so where does this hype bias come from?

Anyway, i felt like ranting and typing this down in minor search for conversation. I'll still be off watching ep5 of PC and maybe I'll start SOOY 'cause it looks like fun despite potentially being that typical romcom🤷🏻‍♀️🤭
