What kind of documentation is needed to prove IP status for Ontario?

Currently living and working in Ontario after graduating from an Ontario university, though I attended high school in BC and have a BC high school diploma. To those who were accepted- what kind of documentation is needed to prove Ontario residency status before entering medical school?

Thank you so much

Ontario landlord claims two bedrooms in our leased house are separate “units”

My co-tenants and I signed a single Ontario Standard Lease for “Unit 1” at a six-bedroom house in Ontario.

We moved into four of the six bedrooms in 2024. Two other individuals moved into the remaining two bedrooms under two separate agreements with the landlord. Those individuals have now moved out.

The landlord now says that those two bedrooms are actually separate “units” with their own leases.

However, nowhere in our lease is “Unit 1” defined as only the four bedrooms we occupy, exclude any bedrooms from our rental unit, or provide any definition of what “Unit 1” encompasses. In fact, the lease appendix states:

“Landlord hereby agrees to grant the Tenant the use of a residential dwelling unit. This lease is ‘from the front door of the Unit in’, meaning that no lease is granted for any parking, exterior area or common area of the property.”

Given that we signed one lease for “Unit 1", the lease does not specify that two bedrooms are excluded, and the lease appears to grant exclusive possession of the residential dwelling unit from the front door inward. Can the landlord legally claim that two bedrooms inside the house are separate rental units and lease them to other tenants?

$14 pickled red onions

Spotted at No Frills in Kingston, Ontario. $14 for 16 oz (473 mL) of pickled red onions. I was so floored I had to double check the price tag!

FYI: if you’re of a fan of these, I recommend ditching store bought ones entirely, and just making them yourself. Making them takes <15 mins and they’ll be a lot fresher, crunchier, and more delicious than anything you can buy in-store for a fraction of the cost- plus you’ll actually know what goes into them!

What are my chances?

Hi everyone,

I'm graduating with a BSc in Life Sciences from a Canadian university this June and applied in the most recent cycle to Canadian medical schools. Unfortunately, I was rejected from all schools pre-interview, and I’m looking for advice if I should apply in the states for the next cycle.

My overall GPA is 3.99/4.00, and my MCAT score was 510 (126/130/126/128).

For extracurriculars, some of my activities include two funded summer research studentships with awards and poster presentations (but no pubs yet), work as a medical office assistant and as a clerk in an emergency department, volunteering in peer mentorship, health promotion, academic advising, consent education, and community work with marginalized populations, leadership roles in student government, student journalism, a finance role with a non-profit, and varsity athletics.

Since graduating, I have started working full-time in clinical research at an academic oncology centre. I am also working with several physicians on literature reviews, which may lead to first-author pubs.

I realize my MCAT is somewhat below the median for many U.S. MD programs, especially in the science sections, but I’m wondering whether my application might still be competitive as an international applicant.

Are there specific U.S. MD or DO schools that tend to be more Canadian-friendly and have lower tuition, aid, or other forms of financial support for international students?

I would be very grateful for any advice. Thank you!

High GPA, high CARS, strong ECs but rejected everywhere pre-interview. Where to go from here?

Hi everyone,

I'm graduating with a BSc in Life Sciences from an Ontario university this June and applied in the most recent cycle to UBC, UofT, Mac, and Queen's. Unfortunately, I was rejected from all schools pre-interview, and I’m looking for advice on how to improve my application for the next cycle.

I'm an in-province applicant for Ontario and BC. My OMSAS GPA is 3.99/4.00, and my UBC GPA is 94.3% overall (94.5% adjusted). My MCAT score was 510 (126/130/126/128), and my CASPer score was in the third quartile.

For extracurriculars, I completed all 32 OMSAS entries and all UBC categories except High Performance. Some of my activities include two funded summer research studentships with awards and poster presentations (but no pubs yet), work as a medical office assistant and as a clerk in an emergency department, volunteering in peer mentorship, health promotion, academic advising, consent education, and community work with marginalized populations, leadership roles in student government, student journalism, a finance role with a non-profit, and varsity athletics.

Since graduating, I have started working full-time in clinical research at an academic oncology centre. I am also working with several physicians on literature reviews, which may lead to first-author pubs.

I know that my Casper hurt my chances at Mac, so I'm planning to rewrite it. Beyond that, I would appreciate advice on how to improve my application overall. Given my GPA, I suspect that my main weaknesses were my ECs and/or the way I described them.

I'd be really grateful for any honest and constructive feedback on where my application may have fallen short and what I can do over the next year to improve. I'm wondering which schools I should apply to OOP (if any), how I can strengthen my ECs, and how I can present my experiences more effectively. My partner is an American citizen, so I am also considering whether applying to USMD would be worthwhile.

Thank you so much for your time and advice!

22 in Ontario and anxious

I’m 22 and living in Ontario. I recently graduated university and started working full time in a public sector admin job making about $55k with benefits, and I also have a part-time job that brings in another ~$15k/year. I have no debt or credit card balance and around $5k saved up right now.
I pay $750/month in rent living with roommates, around $80 in utilities, and probably ~$500/month on food and general day-to-day stuff.

I know I’m still young, but I’ve been feeling really stressed about the future, especially housing and saving. It feels hard not to compare yourself to people online or feel like you’re already behind in Ontario if you’re not saving for a house.

The complicating factor is that I’m hoping to go back to school for medical school in the future, so I’m also trying to think long term and make good financial decisions now.

I’m hoping to hear everyone’s thoughts on what I should focus on financially in this situation. Part of me feels like I should just focus on building savings and keeping expenses low, but another part of me worries I’m not doing enough. I’d really appreciate perspective from people who were in a similar position in their early 20s. Thank you so much! 😊
