Blighted Ovum
Unfortunately, today we found out that our first FET resulted in a blighted ovum. We transferred a PGT-A euploid embryo, so I’m still trying to process how we ended up here after everything seemed to be moving in the right direction initially.
I have to go back next week to confirm, and then I’ll need to decide between medication to manage the miscarriage or a D&C. I’m leaning back and forth and would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been through either option.
One complication is that I have a trip planned about a week after I would likely take the medication or have the D&C. For those who chose the pills, what was the experience like and how long did the heavy bleeding/cramping last? Did you feel comfortable traveling a week later? For those who chose a D&C, how was the recovery and would you have felt okay traveling a week afterward? Any regrets about choosing one over the other?
I’m also trying to figure out what comes next. We have two euploid embryos remaining, but after this loss I’m debating whether to do another retrieval first or move forward with another FET.
If you had a blighted ovum after a euploid FET, how long did it take before your clinic allowed you to do another retrieval or transfer? Did you have to wait for hCG to return to zero or for your period to come back? Did your clinic recommend any additional testing before another transfer?
I know every clinic and situation is different, but hearing actual timelines and experiences would really help me figure out what the next few months might look like.
