Why are there multiple YMCAs in some areas but none in San Marcos?
Why doesn’t San Marcos have a full YMCA facility with a swimming pool despite how much North County has grown?
As a new resident in San Marcos, I was honestly surprised to see that there isn’t a major YMCA serving this area directly, especially considering how many families are moving here and how quickly the community is expanding.
Some parts of San Diego County have multiple YMCA locations relatively close to each other, while San Marcos and nearby North County communities seem underserved when it comes to:
- swimming/aquatic programs
- youth sports
- affordable family fitness
- after-school/community programs
With all the new housing developments and population growth in San Marcos, it feels like there should be stronger community recreation investment here as well.
Are there any plans for:
- a future YMCA in San Marcos?
- a swimming/aquatics center?
- partnerships with schools/community centers?
