If your nervous about endoscopy read this !

So I was a nervous wreck, I mean sobbing in front of the doctors and nurses, i was so embarrassed … not because of the procedure but because anesthesia and being out of control of my body makes me so anxious … they wheeled me back, gave me the medicine and I closed my eyes and felt like a humming sensation in my head and body, then boom I was opening my eyes in recovery … I felt very at ease, a little chest discomfort but that went away … it was so easy and painless… it’s probably 3 hours later and I feel completely normal! They used propofol and versed, and I felt so relaxed afterwards… don’t be nervous, as someone with severe anxiety when it comes to procedures and hospitals, it was a breeze

Scope Monday

I get my scope Monday and I’m terrified of course … I keep reading on here “doctors give you something to calm down before hand” and they say it’s versed … but I got versed before an ankle surgery and it didn’t touch my anxiety… I could still hear my heart racing on the monitors , it just made me feel weird and u settled tbh … I’m not scared of the procedure just scared of the sedation… I don’t like being sedated, it’s a control thing . UPDATE : all went well , no damage, no barrets, took a biopsy to check for one condition .

Endoscopy fears

So I’m getting an endoscopy on Monday and I’m terrified … I’ve been put under before but this time on a medication called suboxone so I’m just worried I’ll have a bad reaction or something … how have you handled your fear of surgeries … the last time I cried for hours before hand… I hate not being in control of my body … I’m scared of not waking up… I can’t even look forward to anything I have coming up bc I’m convinced I won’t make it .

This is how powerful the mind is, I promise this will help you

So I just heard this story on TikTok a man took a bottle full of pills to end his life, he started feeling really bad, nausea , dizziness, vomiting, racing heart etc… so he decided to go to the hospital … when he got there his blood pressure was dropping, heart rate was spiking, and the doctors asked him what he took so they could treat him… he couldn’t tell them what he took because he was in a clinical trial so he didn’t know… the doctors contacted the study and come to find out he was in the placebo group, he had taken a bunch of sugar pills. Once the patient was told that they were sugar pills, his vitals stabilized and he was fine… THATS how powerful the mind is… I suffer with health anxiety, and that story alone completely changed my outlook, your brain will cause your body to have VERY REAL symptoms … it’s a very powerful thing…

I’m sure this sub gets these posts all the time, as an endoscopy is a common procedure for people with gerd, but I was diagnosed by a swallow test many years ago, and honestly my gerd doesn’t bother me that much until a recent flare. I’ve been on protonix and it has helped a lot but they still want to do a endoscopy just to check everything … I’m really nervous … I’ve been put under before but I’m suboxone now and haven’t been sedated before while on this med so I’m just extra nervous …
