Massachusetts New England Hoya Collectors What Systemics and Miticides Are You Using?

Hey everyone!
I’m a Hoya collector in Massachusetts looking for recommendations on effective pest treatments that are legal to use here.
I currently use sulfur treatments twice a year for flat mites and broad mites, which has worked well for me. However, I’m looking for a strong liquid systemic insecticide (soil drench, NOT granules) to control mealybugs, root mealybugs, thrips, and other common houseplant pests.
I’m also interested in recommendations for an effective miticide as an alternative to sulfur when needed.
For context, my Hoyas are grown in self-watering pots with a chunky substrate consisting of tree fern fiber, large and small pumice, small fir bark, worm castings, perlite, zeolite, lava rocks, and small pond rocks. Tree fern fiber is the main moisture-retaining component of my mix.
With Massachusetts pesticide restrictions, I’m having trouble finding effective liquid systemics approved for indoor houseplants.
What specific liquid systemic insecticides and miticides are other Massachusetts or New England Hoya collectors successfully using?
I’d especially appreciate recommendations from collectors using self-watering pots and similar substrates.
Thanks in advance!

WHAT THE HELL DOES HOYA UNDULATA WANT FROM ME?! 😭

Seriously. What is the secret to keeping Hoya undulata alive and HAPPY?
I already killed one. 💀 Now I have an undulata Silver Clone 1, and I swear this plant is determined to humble me.
I’ve given her humidity. I’ve given her heat. I’m careful with watering. I’ve tried giving her the conditions everyone says she wants, and she is STILL acting like a complete bitch. 😂
Meanwhile I have other Hoyas growing perfectly fine, so at this point I need the undulata whisperers to come forward.
If you have an undulata that is actually THRIVING, DROP YOUR SECRETS.
🌡️ Temperature?
💦 Humidity?
🪴 Substrate?
🚿 How often are you watering?
💡 How much light?
🌬️ Airflow?
🌙 Do you give her cooler nights?
🧪 Fertilizer?
And most importantly: what did you STOP doing that finally made yours happy?
Because apparently humidity, heat, love, money and emotional support are not enough for this fucking plant. 😭😂
SHOW ME YOUR THRIVING UNDULATAS. I need proof that this species is capable of happiness.

Why is there such a strong expectation for Dominican children in the U.S. to bring their parents here for retirement?

I’m genuinely curious about something I’ve seen in some Dominican families. (IM
CURRENTLY LIVING IT RIGHT NOW UGH)
Why is there sometimes such a strong expectation that once parents reach retirement age, their children in the U.S. should bring them here and financially help support them, instead of the parents remaining in the Dominican Republic?
For example, imagine a couple who are both over 62, never owned a home or built up much financially in the DR, no schooling no skill one is a house wife and the other is just there .but their adult child already sends them $800 or even more every month and pay their rent and other expenses. That money can go much further in the DR than it does in the US
Then the parents want to move permanently one with a cancelled green card interview and the other with tourist visa that wants to stay and adjust status to green card when husband gets his greencard to the U.S. because they believe they’ll have a better retirement here but housing, food, transportation, healthcare, insurance, medications, etc. are extremely expensive. A lot of that responsibility can end up falling on the adult children who already have their own household, children, bills, and financial responsibilities.
Is bringing your parents to the U.S. and taking care of them here considered a cultural/family obligation in Dominican families? Is there a stigma attached to telling your parents, “You’re financially better off retiring in the DR and we’ll continue helping you from here”?
I’d especially like to hear from Dominicans who have dealt with this with their own parents. How do families normally handle it?

Systemic pesticide for self watering pots

Hi everyone! I’m looking for recommendations for a liquid systemic insecticide for my Hoya collection.
I’m in Massachusetts, so I know our options for systemic insecticides can be limited/restricted.
Most of my Hoyas are in self-watering pots with reservoirs, so ideally I’m looking for something that can be applied through the growing medium or used with a self-watering setup.
Does anyone in Massachusetts use a liquid systemic for their Hoyas? If so, what product are you using and how do you apply it with self-watering pots?
I’d especially love to hear from anyone who has a similar setup. Thank you! 🪴 thank you
