Tried wavy routine for the first time

I tried a wavy hair routine but it didn’t turn out well and I’m not sure what I did wrong. I have naturally wavy hair, not curly.

After showering, I applied leave-in cream on soaking wet hair. Then I did finger coiling, and after that I applied gel. I let my hair air dry completely since I don’t have a diffuser.

Once it dried, my hair didn’t look good at all and the waves/curls fell apart within a few hours.

I’m not sure if I did something wrong with the order (leave-in → finger coil → gel), or if finger coiling isn’t right for my hair type, or if I just need a different technique overall.

I’ve also attached pictures of my natural hair without any styling for reference.

Honestly, I feel a bit discouraged and like maybe I should just straighten my hair because I can’t seem to make the wavy routine work.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

Do I have wavy hair?

All my life, I’ve had multiple chemical treatments done on my hair, like keratin and other straightening treatments.

Now my hair is natural again, but it’s SO unmanageable. Every single time I go out, I end up flat ironing it because I can’t just leave it down naturally without it looking messy or frizzy.

Recently I came across videos of girls with hair kinda similar to mine, and they were following wavy/curly hair routines that made their waves look really defined and pretty. It made me wonder if my hair might actually be wavy and if I’ve just been treating it like straight hair this whole time.

Based on these photos, do you think my hair looks wavy? And if yes, what kind of routine/products should I follow as a beginner?
