Need honest feedback on the atmosphere and retro graphics of my upcoming Horror Game based on a vegetable monster!

I’m working on a horror game where the main creature is… a potato monster.

I’m going for a creepy retro/PS1-inspired atmosphere rather than modern realistic horror, and I’d really love some honest opinions:

• Does the environment actually feel creepy/unnerving?
• Do the retro graphics add to the horror or make it feel less scary?
• What’s the first thing that catches your attention?
• Does the potato monster look like something you'd actually be afraid of?

I’m still developing it, so honest criticism is genuinely appreciated — even if something looks bad, tell me why.

Would you play a horror game with a vegetable monster as the main threat?

Need honest feedback on the atmosphere and retro graphics of my upcoming Horror Game based on a vegetable monster! 🥔

I’ve been experimenting with a retro-inspired horror aesthetic and wanted to get some opinions from people who enjoy horror games.

Looking at these screenshots:

  • Does the atmosphere feel creepy or unsettling?
  • Do the retro graphics work well for horror?
  • Does the environment feel too dark, or does it create the right mood?
  • What would you change to make the scene feel more disturbing?

I’m especially interested in honest criticism, not just compliments. If something feels off, I'd genuinely like to know why.

Also… would a potato monster actually work as a horror creature, or is that concept too ridiculous? 😂🥔

If you’re interested in following the project, I’ve also put the game on Steam:

What do you think of this kind of horror aesthetic?

video

I’ve been thinking about a horror game concept called Potato Man: Chapter 1 🥔

The idea is a horror game built around a strange vegetable-like creature, with a heavily retro/PS1-inspired visual style.

I’m curious what people think about this combination:

  • Do retro graphics make horror more unsettling?
  • Can a ridiculous concept like a potato monster actually be made scary?
  • What makes a creature look creepy rather than just goofy?
  • Would you prefer this kind of horror to be atmospheric and slow-paced, or more action-focused?

Just interested in hearing people's thoughts on the concept and what direction would make something like this genuinely scary.
