!spoilers! My thoughts on dawn by Octavia E. Butler.

I just finished dawn and it was really good. Could have expected that with a writer like Octavia E. Butler. Here are some of my thoughts, they contain spoilers!

I generally dont gravitatie towards science fiction, so I was a little scared going in. As it turned out, I am really intrigued by the aliens and the space setting!

The first 2 parts were amazing. I loved the very first chapter, how we are introduced to the book. I really liked the slowly getting used to the aliens. The internal conflicts seemed really relatable (as far as that is possible in an alien world).

Part 3 was a little mwa for me. It went really fast and sometimes I could not quite follow what happened and why. I really would have wanted to see more of Liliths year of training. The bonding of the 43 people seemed rushed and chaotic. Suddenly Lilith is together with Joseph no buildup whatsoever. And also the connection between joseph and nikanj seemed weird. As well as the moment all the oankali come into the room and 'connect' with each pair. Why are all the humans in pairs, I would not expect people to pair up that fast.

Part 4 was better than part 3, but that ending! I almost cried for Lilith. I am definitely excited to continue with adulthood rites. I had expected book 2 to take place on earth and now I have no idea what direction it will go.

Overal I have to admit that I am a little disturbed by the amount and way of 'sex'. It seems to be way to promenent and at times unnecessary.

Without giving me spoilers for book 2 and 3, what did you think of book 1?

!spoilers! My Stormlight archive journey so far!

So a few months ago I started reading the Stormlight archive for the first time and I promised regular updates. That didnt happen 😅. I am currently 23% in rhythm of war and still loving the journey! I have read both novellas too.

I am still really enjoying my time, but I have to admit that oathbringer was a bit of a challenge. It was amazing, but a bit much at times. It really helps that I read other books in between every Stormlight book. Just to break it down a bit, enjoy my time with Stormlight.

!!!!Spoilers ahead!!!!

I am a bit less invested in Shallan than I was after the first 2 books. She still interests me, but I am not 100% vibing with the different personas. More like 80% vibing. I would love more time with jasnah though.

Also dalinar has stayed the same for me. He is still really interesting but a super little bit boring at times. Kaladin has just been 'promoted' and is going to work as a surgeon with his father. (I dont believe for a second he is going to do this long. He wont be able to sit still and the war wont let him go that easily). And I am really sad we barely get any Renarin!

I just read the interlude from the perspective of sja-anat, that explained a lot, but I am still confused how the unmade work and what roll they play. The same with Venli, I am really interested to hear what roll she will play. I loved getting a chapter from the perspective of Syl!!
