Japanese natural ID

Hi guys , I have this Jnat that was gifted to me by a vintage Japanese tools seller, he would not have any idea of what type of stone this could be , any idea from your side ? It cuts slightly coarser than a natsuya

Synthetic vs Natural finish on Kikuhiromaru Shirogami #2 — the difference is hard to unsee

Setting up a new set of Japanese chisels — full process from Kannaban to Jnat finish

Hey r/handtools — I recently put together a video walking through the complete setup process for a 10-piece set of Kikuhiromaru Oire Nomi (Shirogami #2), and I thought it might be useful to share here.

The process covers: flattening the back on a Kannaban steel plate, establishing the bevel on Shapton synthetics with an Atoma diamond plate for frequent lapping, and finishing on a Japanese natural stone. I also talk through why the Jnat finish produces a different result to synthetics on laminated steel — the way it reacts to the two types of steel in the chisel is something I find genuinely fascinating every time.

Happy to answer any questions about the process or the stones used. Who else here finishes on naturals?

Ootsuki Nomi - sleek chisel restauration and sharpening on natural stones

Hello everybody, I wanted to share my new project with all of you!! I am very happy about how this turned out and I would like to hear what you guys think as well, I ran a YouTube channel where I restore Japanese vintage tools and try my best to find the makers and their history, the time I could only find the maker “Takahisa” , unfortunately, the history of this maker remains a mystery, but I can assure you the quality of his steel speaks for his work , I will attach a link to the video just below, and guys if you like Japanese Tools I would love your support for the channel, I am working extremely hard to create a good experience so that we can share the love for Japanese Tools around the world and your contribute weather is with a subscribe like or a comment what really mean a lot for me to reach more people. Love the community and I hope you enjoy the video and my work, thank you.
