Rant: Cedar Chic Back in Stock - NOT LOL

Got an email that CH Cedar Chic was back in stock. Sold out within minutes of that notice, apparently.

Got another email not 15 minutes later saying it's again in stock. Nope LOL. Sold out.

Just a rant 😄 I probably wouldn't buy a FB but one never knows.

I Couldn't Resist - Small Aramis New West for Her Acquisition

My holy grail of perfume. My signature scent when it came out in 1990 and for many years thereafter.

Been stalking discontinued bottles for years but absolutely didn't want to pay hundreds for it. I'm not that kind of collector lol

Found this on Mercari and was a bit hesitant at first because travel sizes were not produced for this perfume but apparently this 7.5 ml is an official sample. I assume these were used for promotional purposes.

I'll be very stingy with it that's for sure!

Finding Perfume on Estate Sales

EDIT: Thanks everyone! Lots of good reasons I would not have thought of.

Is there a reason why most estate sales rarely seem to have perfumes?

In the past year I've only encountered one sale near me that had perfume (bought Chanel and Lanvin). It's not like there aren't dozens a month of them being advertised either. I belong to the estatesales.net site. Are there other similar sites aside from this one or is it the best choice to follow? It does seem to be the most active locally.

I sometimes see things on FB Marketplace but am always wary of those although I did score a mini of vintage Bal A Versailles. No box but it had the little fabric bag to store it in. Got it from some older guy who clearly didn't know what it was and listed it as "cologne".

I know I can search Mercari but I sometimes like the fun of the hunt!

At Wits End - Something Keeps Eating My Roses

Hi all - Zone 7a NJ here.

I planted 5 various bare root roses in early May this year. Two of them, Ebb Tide and Gabriel Oak, keep getting chewed to bits overnight and it's making me crazy. Not sure what it is doing it though I suspect it's deer. I didn't even know our community had this problem because we moved in last summer and there were few flowering shrubs on the property. Unfortunately found out when early spring I saw a deer at dusk bound across my back yard. Since them I've seen more than several.

Yesterday afternoon both of these roses looked like they were finally recovering from the last time it happened. Both filling out nicely with healthy leaves.

Just now I looked and each are again, chewed down to the stems.

Weirdly the other 3 have been left alone. It's only the ones in the front bed that are the target. Considering there is street lighting, you'd think would keep critters away. But maybe it's only highlighting what is there?

I thought about getting some netting for them but I live in a HOA community so I'm not allowed to do anything to protect these roses. I thought about putting netting over them netting but am concerned that will catch the eye of the landscaping group and I'd have to remove it.

I've already tried several recommended chemical deterrents but none have worked. Let alone the stench of those could be a bother to neighbors.

So at this point I'm wondering should just move them elsewhere? Large pots or in the other beds? I don't have much room anywhere else for them but *may* be able to squeeze them in somewhere. Or wait until the cooler weather sets in? Or leave them as is over winter and deal with it next spring?

I'm not new to growing roses at all but never had this problem in other homes. Thanks!

How Do People Lose Bottle Caps?

Very curious how bottle caps get lost.

I saw a post in one of the buy/swap/find groups I belong to. Someone is selling dozens and dozens of perfume and at least half of them are missing the caps. I can see one rolling under a bed now and then but even then, you could get to it. The condition of a lot of these bottles is really poor, too. Curling labels for example.

Are people just buying up testers without caps to resell? Hoarding gone very wrong? Kids that pull them off never to be seen again?

I'm genuinely wondering about this because I see it a lot in these perfume groups and can't see how this can happen so frequently, let alone to so many bottles in one collection.

New Jo Malone Sea Salt & Bergamot Quick Review

I ordered a travel size of the new Jo Malone Sea Salt & Bergamot from Sephora since they had early access. Got it today - fastest shipping in a while!

I'm really enjoying this one. I was never too into JM but there are several I like a lot (Sea Salt & Sage) and I even am about to buy my first full bottle from them: Beach Blossom.

SS&B is a nice departure from all the recent overly tropical summer releases. I feel like there's been a glut of passionfruit and similar lately and while they are fun I wanted something more restrained, less party girl. I'm not big on purely citrus scents but for whatever reason I love Bergamot a lot and was on the look out for something that featured it instead of it being a supporting actor in the formula. While very linear, this does the trick.

It's well blended and there's a lovely mossy, old wood undertow to it. Just enough saltiness to punch it up but it doesn't overwhelm and a honey like sweetness from immortelle. It's refreshing and clean, bordering on being a skin scent but not quite. I can't wait to try this fresh out of a shower.

I think this would layer nicely with Beach Blossom which has a lime note; the bergamot in this one reminds me of it. I'm currently wearing it over YSL Blouse and it's working with that too. Quite happy I did the blind buy on this one. I may wind up liking this house more than I thought I did!

Package Now With "

Sorry for the obscure Title of the post - thought I had finished it but clearly didn't!

I'm pretty annoyed at the moment. Bought something from Phlur Perfume. Item was shipped on 7/9. Got stuck in the town I live in on 7/11 to current date. No movement.

Today I look and it now says the package is still estimated for today but the shipper now reads "Kerry Express Thailand"

Wut??? Thailand?

Getting in touch with Uni has been impossible. Getting in touch with Phlur is the same problem - they only seem to have AI bots working. I keep being told "wait a few more days" but that mention of Thailand is really freaking me out!

Thoughts?

Jardiance 50mg? Wut?

New here - not posting for myself. Trying to keep this as short as possible.

My husband, 67, has Type 2 diabetes. It has not been well controlled mostly because of his own doing; refusing to alter his diet, won't exercise, frequently forgets to take medication, etc. There's more to this; there are other underlying health challenges which certainly tie into the management of his diabetes; a prior stroke and heart attack and his mental health too. Suffice it to say he's being treated for all of it but he's challenging to deal with medically. I try to be in the room for all appointments especially since his stroke left him with minor cognitive problems.

My immediate concern is his recent urinalysis showed he's dumping sugar in his urine. I was not surprised to hear this. His primary doctor told him to start taking 50mg of Jardiance. He is already on 25mg. There is no such 50 mg dose of this medication. He's also on Metformin, 500mg x 2 a day.

My understanding is 50mg is definitely not recommended, like, at all as it can impact kidney function which he already has periodic problems with stones and had a blockage last year that required surgery. Like I said, a lot of medical issues.

Does anyone take this high a dose of Jardiance? He did question this when the nurse called him with this change but she seemed unsure how to answer his question and was going to pass it to the doctor for clarification.

Based on my own research about this change, I told him not to increase until his upcoming follow up appointment this week.

Any info you can give me about this is appreciated. I'd like to come as well prepared to talk to his doctor as possible. This doctor is new to him, we moved last summer and I'm not feeling confident at this point about this suggested change.

Yay! Better Late Than Never

I was surprised these bloomed later than I'm used to. I used to live in Zone 6 (NJ) and am now in 7. They always bloomed before Memorial Day and this one, after. Maybe the harsh winter we had has something to do with it. I have no idea what kind of peony it is so if anyone recognizes it from all the other hundreds of pink peonies let me know! They aren't totally opened yet, not sure if that darker pink striping runs through the entire flower or not yet.

There's another dozen or so on the bush to cut in the next day or so :D

What Color Kitchen Cabinets Would Match Existing Granite Counters?

Moved into this home nearly a year ago and getting ready to tackle updating the kitchen. I don't know who came up with the color scheme but it clearly does not work.

We are looking to have the cabinets professionally painted. They are in decent condition. The counter is granite with taupe, cream, gray and burgundy tones. We like it enough to keep it and since the layout also works we thought renovating the cabinets would be the least expensive and big impact change.

We will be painting the walls also but that will depend on cabinet color. We are leaving the floor as-is since it literally runs through the entire home and is in good condition.

The kitchen windows are south and west facing. Leaning to a warm neutral white or taupe. Maybe...green? I've ran it through AI and haven't really come up with anything that makes me go WOW yet. Open to all suggestions!

Gabriel Oak Bloom in Progress

I had my landscaper plant 5 bare root roses from Heirloom Roses not even a month ago. I'm in zone 7. Gabriel Oak is the first to put out a nice size bud, with a few more in progress. I haven't bought bare root in many years and couldn't remember how they progressed so I'm super excited!

I had some concerns maybe they weren't planted as well as I expected but all seem to be fine so far and are getting adequate sun and water. All the others are leafing out and look healthy too so I expect the same from them shortly.

The ones I'm waiting on are Ebb Tide, Parfuma Angel, Papa Meilland and Lady of Shalott.

Can You Predict Color Based On This Bud?

I moved last summer so I missed the peonies blooming at my new home. There's about 30 buds, it's a nice, mature, healthy peony.

Today I finally noticed some are starting to show their petals. To my eyes, I think they will be light pink. But I'm curious if anyone else shares the opinion. I'm so excited to see what this turns out to be!

Any Good Florists in Toms River or Surrounding Areas?

Hope this is allowed!

We are new-ish to the area and my husband has no idea who is trustworthy to order flowers from. Any recs? We are in Toms River but close to Brick if that helps narrow it down.

Thanks!
