Challenge: Create a New Native American Disney Princess

Here's the scenario-- Imagine that, due to the controversy surrounding her, Disney has decided to retire Pocahontas from the official "Disney Princess" lineup. They want to make another movie with a Native American protagonist that will hopefully take her place.

Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to create a pitch for such a movie. There are, however, a few rules to keep in mind.

  1. The movie must have significant basis in the lore, culture, and/or mythology of a specific Native American people.
  2. The focus of the story should be on the Native American characters themselves, rather than their relationship with white colonists.
  3. The protagonist must be human, and remain such for at least the majority of the story (as opposed to the likes of Brother Bear and The Emperor's New Groove).
  4. While the movie is allowed to contain comedy, the depiction of the protagonist's society and culture should be done seriously (as in Moana and Coco).

I did the thing!

Someone earlier asked for a version of the Invincible Thragg-with-skull meme with Primal characters, so I decided to do one featuring the various villains of the show.

From left to right, back to front, the characters are:
The Zombie Argentinosaurus
The Andrewsarchus Matriarch
The Night Feeder
The chief of the Black River People
The Panther Monster
The Viking Chieftain
The Fire Demon
The Witch Leader
One of the Mole-Men
Queen Ima
Krogg

There's a guy on DeviantArt I've been friends with on the site for over 12 years. We share a lot of the same interests, and we always have interesting conversations about them. But
Lately-- as in, within the past year-- his behavior has been kind of disturbing.

He's been putting himself down a lot, saying things like how he doesn't deserve to be liked and he's a terrible person. He seems to be convinced that no one actually likes him. He makes a lot of posts where it feels like he's trying to reassure himself that he isn't hated and nobody is against him. I have no idea why he's doing this, but he seems really insecure about the things he enjoys, and is paranoid that he'll be judged, so he feels like he has to constantly justify himself.

He also just recently made a post where he threatened to block anyone who made "irrelevant comments" on his artwork, which is a big departure from the sort of open, engaging personality he used to have. While, again, I don't know what's going on with him, I can't help but wonder if something has happened to make his ego incredibly fragile, to the point that he needs constant affirmation.

It really bothers me, because he wasn't always like this. My question is, what should I do? Part of me wants to ask him what the problem is, but I'm afraid he'll block me if I so much as bring up the subject. But I don't want to just ignore it either, not when it feels like something is really wrong with him. What's the right thing to do?

I was into the carnivorous plant hobby for a while as a teenager. I had a bog garden with Sarracenia and sundews in it in my backyard made out of an old bathtub-- unfortunately, this was basically destroyed by my father's pet chickens, who decided it would make a good place to dig. Ever since then, I've kind of held off on getting back into carnivorous plants, but now I want to try again. However, I have some questions.

  1. I live in a fourth-floor apartment with a south-facing porch, in North Carolina. What plants will be suitable for these conditions?
  2. From what I've read, these plants accept only rainwater or distilled water. I can buy distilled water easily enough, but do the plants have to constantly be kept moist or do they only need to be watered at intervals? I've seen some people use a setup where the pot is placed in a basin of water.
  3. I'll be going out of town at the end of this month. Can I trust that these plants will survive a week without being watered before I get home, as long as they are kept moist?
  4. What type of soil do carnivorous plants prefer? The ones at my local plant shop come in pure sphagnum moss, but I don't know if that's good for them long-term.

So I was doing some spring cleaning, and I discovered my old 1998 I Choose You Pikachu plush, which I hadn't seen in years. The voice box and the mechanism to make Pikachu's ears move were broken, so I opened it up and took a look inside. The batteries had long since rotted, and the acid seems to have corroded the metal contacts. Is there any way I can restore it? I've seen other people do similar things, but I'm not sure how to do it myself.

Do the things the kids do in the past affect their own timeline? For example, in Tonight on the Titanic, they visit the titular ship, but aren't able to stop it from sinking. If they had, though, would they have discovered upon returning to their own time that the Titanic never sank? Or would they have only changed the events portrayed within the book itself, and not their own reality?

Likewise, in To The Future, Ben Franklin, they bring Ben Franklin back to the present day with them. Does this mean the historical Ben Franklin now has an account of time-traveling to the future, which no one will likely believe? Or is this, again, "just" a version of him from inside the book?
