E-Scooter / Moped help

Recently bought a second-hand 2018 NIU N1S scooter for ~$925 NZD. Seller said they weren’t aware of any sudden battery drops/issues.

Scooter charges to 100% and rides completely fine initially, but under hills/load it can suddenly cut out and flash the battery warning light, even when battery is still around 60–80%. Sometimes it rides fine for 20–30 mins, other times it cuts out on a short uphill trip.

Scootling/NIU think it sounds battery related. From what I’ve read it sounds like battery sag/weak cells under load.

Question is:

  • is this likely just an aging battery?
  • worth diagnosing further?
  • worth replacing battery eventually?
  • or should I try get my money back?

Would appreciate thoughts from people who’ve owned older NIU scooters / dealt with lithium battery sag.
