Snakewood Addiction

This was a little Menuki/handle ornament I made for one of my own personal knives.

Really, I just take any excuse I can to polish up some Snakewood. It is one my simple pleasures in life.

This was sanded through 1200 and buffed with pink compound. No topcoat or oiling necessary.

I get all giddy like a kid on Christmas whenever I get to work with this stuff.

A Strange One

I made this one purely as an exercise in fun. And fun it was.

Right around 12" long on the blade.

"D-Guard" was a two-piece construction.

Handle is OD Canvas with a leather overwrap.

Old Integral Hunter/EDC

Forged this one out from a 1.5" round bar many years ago. Outside of a few dings here and there, it's held up beautifully to daily carry and use.

All handwork, as always. No presses or power hammer. Though, those would make things a whole lot easier.

Kukri - Ironwood/Copper

This monster was made in an Arizona theme with both copper and Ironwood sourced from AZ.

80CrV2 with through-tang construction.

Small Camper

Here is a small camp knife I made a while back.

While it's common(and for good reason) to carry a larger, do-it-all blade that can handle both heavy and light chores, I sometimes prefer to have a smaller one as well for lighter camp-side tasks.

Which do you prefer? One larger blade that can cover all bases, or a couple of different sizes in your kit?

My Personal Bowie

Forged this one from W2 about a decade ago.

Decided to go without a guard, haven't regretted it yet.

Black G10 and 304SS on the handle.

Experimenting a bit.

Experimenting with a red copper patina on Higonokami handles. Blackened copper next to it for reference.

Polished, cleaned, degreased, then taken up to a cherry red heat with a torch and quenched in borax and boiling water.

Not exactly what I was looking for, but we're getting close! I'll experiment a bit more with the borax to wager ratio and temperature on the copper and see where it takes me.
