Where to buy quality knives without scales?

Where can I buy quality EDC-type fixed blades that come without scales?

Not knives that are meant to be carried without scales, and not generic blanks. I’m looking for a something with a respectable name brand and high tier steel that I can make my own scales for.

The AK1 in Magnacut is a perfect example; you’re meant to also order scales from them to customize a complete knife, but they don’t mind selling you just the blade. Spiderco Mule Team is another great example. What else is out there?

Got my first…

First OTF, figured it might as well be my first Microtech too! Makora 206-12s. Very impressed with this thing, also just ordered at UTX85 for something a little more “pocket friendly”. I can’t put it down.

The best knife from Spyderco

Lately, I've been interested in Spyderco knives. It's been a while since I've bought a new knife, so please let me know which one is the best out of the ones you've used.

A day late for Independence Day or two days early for Ti Tuesday 😅

Went on the road for a short Independence Day vacation and brought two US made knives for EDC: a CRK Umnumzaan and a Jeff Vandermeulen OG. 🇺🇸🔪🦅🔪🎆 The Zaan I've been carrying a lot, and the Vandermeulen is pretty new but I got it with the intention to EDC it regularly. For a custom handmade knife, it's really great bang for the buck versus a lot of the modern CNC knives that are priced the same ($1k range).

Can I get an authenticity check on this Ali Higo, is it a Nagao?

NKD

TB outdoor C.A.C.

Quite a large pocket knife. Has a class breaker, belt cutter and a corkscrew. Also has a smaller screw that locks in the pivot screw. Haven't seen that before. Action feels smooth and the knife seems quite robust.

Buck 110 Slim and 112 Slim Lanyard Hack

Some of the “spoon” clips from Spyderco, Delica and other knives have the same hole spacing as the Buck 110 and 112 slim models. I like these knives as beaters, but even though they have reversible pocket clips, they don’t accommodate lanyards. But they come with screws in the unused pocket clip screw holes.

I cut off the tops of some of my Spyderco takeoff pocket clips and put them on my 110 and 112 using the existing spare screws.

Newbie’s NKD

So I saw a coworker fiddling with their pocket knife and he told me about knife club and said their first rule was “to talk about knife club”

He got me interested in pocket knives and I eventually asked for a recommendation. I settled on this beauty…..what’d’ya think

This is another post asking about the angle i need to sharpen the knife

In this post, i have another type of dull knives i need to sharpen, what makes me a bit confused is that it have a longer inner edge, like a 1cm inner edge, so my question, do i sharpen the inner edge 1st then the outer edge second? Or do i do the oppsite, or no need to sharpen the inner edge?

Here are the knife info:

The overall size of the knife is 28cm, the blade alone without handle is 15cm by 4.5cm

There are some ingraving on the blade: "kiwi brand made in thailand"

The knife edge have 2 edges, the inner edge is 1cm, and the outer is less than 1mm

The knife is thin and easily can be bended

Here are some pictures of the knife

https://imgur.com/a/vnmM7mi

There is a unique feature in this knife, the 1 cm inner edge it is like it is engraved with very thin strips vertical pattern next to each other, like is this the result of sharpening? I can barely feel it with my hands, even though it is smooth, so if i sharpen it will this pattern dissapear?

Reformed “collector”

I sold off the collection a few years back and started carrying things that met 3 criteria.

  1. fills a utilitarian purpose.
  2. I would actually enjoy using.
  3. I liked the general look of.

Since then, I’ve been reminded almost daily that one good knife I’m not afraid to use is better than 100 I am afraid to use. I used to cringe at people who said they liked their gear to have wear. Scratches would mess with my head. I wanted all of my gear to remain perfect. Those were just silly mental hangups. This knife has been on my hip every day for the last year, through multiple mountain ranges, used all the time around the house/yard, and handed to the girlfriend many times. There is something special about having one knife you’d take to hell and back. I understand what those people meant when they said they liked their gear to have character now. The safe queens would never go deep into the mountains with me. This one will.

I would love to see your “one knife”. The one you’ve got actual mileage with. The one you’ve actually used. The one you’d go to hell and back with. Post em up here. Bonus points if you include a cool story of how you actually used it.
