NKD - Something a little different

HS Rescue. This thing is pretty cool, a beast like any Gen II CT. Something I hope can sit untouched in the vehicle, but will be happy to have it if needed

Smooth Sunday

The machining and micromilling companies are doing today is incredible, but I've really been enjoying smooth scales lately.

  • Microtech Executive Scarab D/E-S
  • Hinderer XM-24 Harpoon Spanto
  • Microtech Amphibian
  • Demko Shark-A-Tac

The Amphibian really made me appreciate it and want to try more

Fixed Friday

My two favorite iterations of the Ka-Bar USMC:

  • Spartan Ka-Bar
  • Extrema Ratio MK2.1

The Ka-Bar is very close to the original, but in Magnacut and has better fit and finish. The MK2.1 is a modernized version with Italian influence. It's made of N690 and the butt cap unscrews to be able to remove the handle. Neither are full tang

Purple Frag 😍

Couldn't resist the sale price and wanted more purple and more frag. My last Socom Ram-Lok and last Ram-Lok in general unless/until a DLC version comes out. Blade grind and edge on this one are pretty good, I've been really happy with the job they've done with titanium Socoms.

Grail N(to me)KD and NKD

  • Maxace Corvus III
  • Ferramonster Astrome

I have been hunting a Corvus for years, since I missed the initial release. Finally had one pop up from Blade Show leftovers in relatively decent shape (it's from 2022, a few scuffs in the scales in the right light) for an acceptable price. It's a big (4.3" blade) heavy knife and looks great, I'm glad to finally add it to my collection.

Also got the Astrome in, I had been curious about Ferramonster. Nice belt satin DLC and good action, I like the design overall. The top of the blade towards the tip is a bit rough and the back spacer anodizing has a bare spot, so I question their QC a bit. It's tolerable for the $225 I paid and not worth my time for an exchange, but I don't see it as quite to the level of quality of the retail price ($296) they're asking

Frugal Friday - Integral Edition

I'm a sucker for a good integral. Here are a few of the more affordable options to check out if you've wanted to try one but don't have a large budget:

  • KB Eclipse ~$250
  • Real Steel Vena Ultimate ~$285
  • TwoSun TS195 ~$195

The Eclipse is the nicest of the three, I'd consider it a bargain for what you get, no complaints. The TS195 is relatively well priced for what it is, but definitely the least refined. The Vena is a pretty cool build, the entire lock and blade/pivot assembly are inserted into the handle as a unit (minus screws), but it's not quite on the level of the Eclipse

RSK Vena Ultimate

Just got this in today. Real Steel is hit or miss for me but this is a cool little knife, an upgrade to the G10 Vena. Decent action for a cross bar and I'm always a sucker for an integral. The blade and lock are a separate unit that inserts into the front of the handle, pretty cool way to do the lock type on an integral. I like the brass accent for the lock and they upgraded to Elmax steel for this version. My only nitpicks are a bit more milling or contouring would be nice and the fitment of the insert isn't perfect. Overall a decent piece if you want a titanium integral for under $300

Rike/Ketuo Collection

I feel like I don't see enough of these guys on here. The designs can be interesting and certainly aren't for everyone, but they do some incredible machining.

  1. Ketuo Kyzaghan - Tool-less takedown with adjustable dial pivot, interesting lock
  2. Rike/Forever Steel Tyokutuk - Tapered integral with ring and retractable pocket clip
  3. Rike Predator 2 - Integral with bar lock, the bolsters are separate but so tight there's basically no line
  4. Rike Viper 4 - Integral with contoured and scale milled handle, double hollow ground blade
  5. Rike Thor 5 - Integral with skeletonization and the spine is a milled skull and spine (gas stationy but impressive)
  6. Rike/Microtech - Matrix
  7. Rike/Microtech - Socom Bravo
  8. Rike/Microtech - Socom Bravo Mini
  9. Bonus - Rike - Tactical (obviously) scissors

NKD - Antique Edition

Got these in today:

  • Combat Troodon Gen II S/E in antique bronze
  • Socom Ram-Lok in antique green and bronze

I didn't have an S/E CT yet and I really like the look of this one, beautiful anodizing and a steal at the sale price.

The black inserts look great with the green and bronze on the Socom, the blade is evenly ground. As usual the titanium version feels incredible

Friday Faceoff: Cutting Edge

These are the two ends of the spectrum from my collection

Worst: Microtech Stitch

  • Cutting Edge: 3"
  • Overall Length: 8.5"
  • Ratio: 0.35

Best: Shirogorov F95

  • Cutting Edge: 4"
  • Overall Length: 8.78"
  • Ratio: 0.46

I don't know if anything beats either one of these, anyone have other examples? (Regular folders only, weird Cali legal autos or fold out handles don't count)
