Burnout

Anyone else been through a rough period whilst being on pristiq and came out of it stabilised again WITHOUT having to up a dose?

i have anxiety, panic disorder and ADHD (unmedicated) Been on 50mg for a year. worked wonders for my anxiety and took away my panic attacks - until a month ago, i got very sick with pneumonia and haven’t felt the same since. anxiety is back, depressive feelings and intrusive thoughts, ever since being on antibiotics!

really struggling with returning to work after illness, severely burnout after years of masking my adhd and managing anxiety. feel like i have no energy for work or anyone or anything other than looking after myself. have reduced my days at work, but still fatigued and anxious, and needing more sick days.

trying to be patient with myself after this illness, reassuring myself it’s a rough patch. all posts on here say that when this happens the medicine stopped working or it’s time to go up a dose. i really don’t want to up my dose as i was reluctant to go on it in the first place. i think i need to really do the work. considering adding an adhd medication too.

i just want to know its normal when life is stressful to feel down and anxious; and it doesn’t necessarily mean the meds have stopped working for me! i think because pristiq has helped for so long, i sort of forgot how to manage my stress myself. this period of sickness and burnout has really taken me back. and im scared! i have this weird perception that i should feel perfect on medication and if im feeling emotions it means it’s not working??

brain zaps

has anyone experienced brain zaps WITHOUT lowering or changing their dose? been on 50mg pristiq a year, just experienced a pretty intense brain zap. google only brings up results about discontinuation but i’ve changed nothing. i did have a stressful day.

paranoid this means it’s stopped working, seeking reassurance

How long have you been on pristiq?

how long has everyone been on pristiq? have you noticed it randomly stopped working? i’ve had some life stressors lately (sickness, antibiotics, time off work) and trying to go back to work has triggered a bout of breakthrough anxiety for me.
i am TERRIFIED that pristiq has stopped working so im looking for some reassurance

i’ve been on 50mg for 14 months. it took away my anxiety completely and now it’s back.

Antibiotics and SSRI/SNRI

Has anyone else felt like their antidepressant has stopped working after taking an antibiotic?

been stable since starting pristiq a year ago, recently went on doxycycline for pneumonia (finished a week ago) and my anxiety and depression is really high. and i’m not normally depressed, mainly anxious.

i’m wondering if the affect the antibiotic has on your gut can affect anxiety. i’m hoping i return to normal soon.

Breakthrough Anxiety

I’ve been on Pristiq (SNRI) since May 2025 (14 months) for Anxiety/Panic attacks and although starting it was rough, it’s changed my life for the better - took away my anxiety almost completely, stopped my panic attacks.

I’ve had 1 or 2 panic attacks in the past year since taking it, when they used to be almost daily. so it’s been great. However, i’ve been sick for 4-5 weeks with a horrible flu, which then turned into pneumonia. this triggered an anxiety flare up, which has been really scary as i fear the panic and anxiety feelings. i think it got flared up as with pneumonia you feel short of breath, and its caused asthma, which doesn’t help. these sensations of not being able to breathe trigger panic for me.

anyway, after a few weeks off work, today was my first day back. I felt horrible shaky and anxious all day, worked myself up into a panic attack and now i’m just feeling deflated. i haven’t felt this way since before starting my medication and am terrified the Pristiq has stopped working suddenly - when you google online everywhere just says i’ve built up a tolerance and it’s all over basically.

basically im just seeking some reassurance that others on here have experienced breakthrough anxiety after a health event/stressful time and that it goes away. I can cope with the anxiety slightly better than prior to medication, however i’m mainly terrified of reverting back to full on panic disorder like i was before medication. i’ve also been feeling extra sensitive, sad and emotional. not sure if it’s related to recovering from pneumonia or if the meds have randomly stopped working.

i am not keen to up my dose from 50mg to 100mg at this stage

thanks in advance
