ZTZ-59 D-II “Shifu”

Hypothetical 2035 Modernization

Modernization programs for legacy platforms such as the T-55 AGM have repeatedly faced cancellation primarily due to high cost. Taking this into account, the PLAGF developed a modernization package to bring the ZTZ-59 or Type-59 to modern standards with an emphasis on retaining its distinct characteristics of cheap cost and low maintenance. This is accomplished through the integration of predominantly off-the-shelf components from existing scaled supply chains. 

The ZTZ-59 Shifu inherits the fire control system, remote weapon station, battle management systems, and main gun of the premier ZTZ-100, while adopting the explosive reactive armor suite of the ZTZ-99B and VT-4. The in-production GL-6 APS is also fitted. The only new development is the bustle-autoloader system engineered to house the exceptionally large 1100mm rounds. 

This configuration brings the Type-59 contemporary firepower and full situational awareness, enabling it to coordinate effectively on the networked battlefield and adhere to a see-first,-shoot-first long range doctrine. The RWS and APS systems together provide credible defense against anti-tank guided missiles and limited protection against aerial drone threats.

Main Armament:  

• 105mm high pressure cannon (ZTZ-100)

Secondary Armaments: 

• 7.62mm Coaxial machine gun
• 12.7mm RWS (ZTZ-100), supporting dual role as CITV with autonomous drone defense capability

Ammunition: 

• 1100mm maximum length projectiles (ZTZ-100)

Armor: 

• Base protection 100mm upper front plate, 200mm turret front (standard Type-59)
• FY-5 ERA (ZTZ-99B) applied on the upper front hull, sides of the turret, and blowout panels
• FY-5 ERA (VT-4 2035 upgraded export package) applied on the front and roof of the turret

Note: Despite the increased visual bulk, no additional composite armor modules are fitted. The apparent volume behind the turret ERA is empty space

Additional Protection: 

• GL6 APS with modified quad-packed launchers

Autoloader: 

• Bustle mounted autoloader with 4 second reload

Engine: 

• Base 520 hp V-12 diesel (standard Type-59)

Weight: 

• 41 tons

Crew: 

• 3 (driver, gunner, commander)

Miscellaneous: 

• BMS and full suite of electronics (ZTZ-100)
• Air conditioning unit
• Auxiliary power unit to support the extensive new electronic load

It feels depressing that there's so many interpretations of what it would look like (ie CGI, paintings at the location to show it's real size, sad miniature models on the original foundation) but no actual reconstructions. I think it would be awesome to see a real reconstruction of this palace one day in our lifetimes.

If they could put the in effort they throw into their infinite movie sets (looking at you Hengdian) then they could pull it off.

I woke up to my factory with 0 power despite having 10 coal burners running. so I built 20+ more mining rigs to dig more originium. only to find out I ran out of power because of these and built 6 more burners. now virtually all of my originium goes to the burners for power instead of production.

All this just to make 3 items per minute.
