Why are maids only popular in Hong Kong and India?

Went to Hong Kong Airport today, was looking for place to seat and enjoy my dinner, was standing in front of an empty table waiting for it to be cleaned by the cleaner lady, suddenly out of nowhere one old auntie sprinted toward our table full throttle and sit on the table while it was still getting cleaned on. Gave the auntie a look and she was like 😒. Tf?
Wtf with the manner here, happened twice while I’m here in HK for 4 days.
#For the comment section wondering if it’s mainlanders or hongkongs
After a while, 3 other auntie joined the first auntie and start speaking canto. Besides that, some of milder mannerless behavior I observed here:
Although I would say this makes HongKong very unique and I gained alot of experiences now to deal with people here xD (no hate, peace!)
Thoughts?
Looking for good ways to earn money as a 19 year man locally that ideally don't require the ability to speak/understand Mandarin/Cantonese
I was reading a post from a tourist where the discussion of cash payment because of a broken machines happen but was wondering what happens next if you can’t pay cash
I’m quite curious what you all think about the south asians broadly Indians, Pakistanis and Nepalis in Hong Kong.
It’s quite evident that people from these countries have been living here for ages since the colonial rule.
But there has been a slight increase in the number of immigrants in the recent years.
How does a normal Hong konger feel about them?
Specifically in neighbourhoods like Tsim sha Tsui , where the biggest fraction lives. Do people have good relationships?
We recently paid over HK$15k to bring a new helper from the Philippines through an agency. During the interview and vetting process, she seemed proactive, kind, and experienced with children and household management.
Unfortunately, after just one week, the experience has been very different. She has struggled to perform basic duties, spends a lot of time on her phone, and within six days of arriving asked to borrow a large sum of money due to credit card debt, which made us uncomfortable. More concerningly, we’ve noticed she has been dishonest, with inconsistencies about her previous employment history and experience. After a full day out, we’ve also come home to find that very little or nothing has been done, which adds to our concerns.
Our children like her, but overall she has created more stress and work for our family rather than helping us.
For those who have been through this:
We have young children and need reliable help fairly quickly, so any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated.
I think its too much now, its fine if they stay outside and manager own residence if want increase,
Hi! Anyone from Hong Kong can tell if there's any physical stores with Monster High dolls? I kinda want anyone of these two and there's this uncle known to my father has gone there, so if anyone can help, it will be appreciated, thank you
+Google ain't helping much
Gotta rep Egypt ong
I'm a few weeks into a 3.5-month internship in Hong Kong. I'm from Australia, where I've been diagnosed with ADHD, and I brought roughly a 2-month supply of Vyvanse with me. Unfortunately, I miscalculated how many pills I'd need, and at this rate I'll run out a few weeks early.
Does anyone have insight into whether it's possible to get prescribed Vyvanse as a foreigner in Hong Kong? My doctor back home can provide a letter, and I have copies of my prescriptions with me.
From what I understand, GPs here can theoretically prescribe Vyvanse but are extremely unlikely to do so in practice. The other route I've found is getting assessed by a local psychiatrist, but that seems expensive and like far more effort than it's worth for a few weeks' supply.
Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!
i've been eyeing it for a while as a second option for concert tickets but i've always been a bit skeptical. i saw it advertised on a bus today which makes me feel like it's legit but has anyone had any experience with it? is it safe to use?
Hello! I am considering building a Hong Kong replica, and am wondering where I should start.
It will not be a 1:1 replica, because I don't have that much time, it's be a little smaller, but all the famous and nice buildings I will try to include.
Any suggestions?
Happy Independence day to all! 🇺🇲🦅🎆
also i just turned 21 this 4th July (I live in a different timezone)
It's too far to tell but from the look of this chart Bavi is heading straight to the Pearl River Delta. BTW a Saffir-Simpson Category 3 typhoon is what HK Observatory calls a Super Typhoon.
I'm moving to a new place, where they seem to only have HKT (PCCW/Netvigator) fibres in the walls, which leaves me not much choices. Now, they are offering the same $198 per month package for 1,000mbit access, which is what I used to have and works for my family.
Catch here is they are demanding $980 relocation / re-installation fee. What are my chances of successfully waiving this off? They are offering to waive it completely if I upgrade my plan to 2,500mbit which costs $98 more, or some other BS packages like multi-SIM which is completely useless.
Any success stories here would be helpful.
Thank you
Hi everyone!
I am a DM of D&D 5th edition. My job search this month has absolutely debilitated every inch of my being, and now to assuage my pain I am looking to join or host a game of Dungeons and Dragons weekly or bi-weekly.
If you are planning or have a running D&D game and are looking for a mindful and witty player, please let me know. Alternatively, if you're interested to play or try it out for the first time, I am also considering hosting a short D&D saga in Whampoa. It would be a nice way to connect people with each other and meet some new friends.
Edit: If you would like to join a game hosted by me, please shoot me a DM or join u/Xefoxmusic**'s discord group. I'll try to invite you to a game. Don't be afraid if you're new - I've done a few short campaigns and one-shots to introduce new players to D&D before!
