Letter of release (emailed ?)

Hi guys, so here is my situation. I am in a research job in Hong Kong and I’m leaving a little bit earlier compared to the contract (my manager is completely ok with that, he is happy with the project now and with my total amount of work hours, I can even work more than he intended in the time I have left).

For the IR56G, my employee told me that it would be available to me, but to the best of my knowledge, once I give the IR56G to the IRD of Hong Kong, I have to wait one month to get Letter of release IR607, BUT i can pay my taxes right away.

I have at the end of my last month a trip Ive been looking forward for a long time and everything is booked and non refundable, it feels really counter intuitive for me to stat and wait for my letter of release, since my last salary is less than plane tickets ill have to rebuy if I wait in Hong Kong for that letter.

So here is my question : if I pay taxes right away after the IR56G, but cant be in Hong Kong for my letter of release, what do I risk ? Not being paid ? Not being paid right away (maybe they have a legal amount of time they can withold money ?) ? Can I ask them for Letter of Release by email ? Thanks a lot

Balagezong Canyon

Hi guys, i’ll be visiting Yunnan for few weeks in a while and I am planning my trip. I was planning to do Tiger Leaping Gorge (2 days) from Lijiang, but from photos I see online, Balagezong seems way more breathtaking.

I was planning a 2 day stay in Lijiang, bu I rearranged my planning and now I can afford staying 3-4 days in Shangri-La (I know Lijiang isn’t in Shangri La, but close).

What would you recommend for Balagezong ? Which city to arrive (i’ll be in kunming before) ? Is it accessible with train ? How long should I stay ? And what attractions should I go to visit ? Thanks a lot 🙏

China vietnam border (Bus from Nanning To Hanoi)

Hi guys, living in Hong Kong right now and planning a trip to vietnam. I am a little bit against taking plane for trips in the same continent, and planning a small trip to VietNam (I already went, I just wanted to show my girlfriend a few cities I loved).

So I looked into it, and i saw on Rome2Rio you have some buses that does Nanning-Vietnam. Would you recommend booking it on this website, or booking it in Nanning bus station directly, with Alipay ?

Additionally, would you recommend staying in Nanning a day or 2 ? What would you do if you stayed there ? Thank you ! Enjoy the help.

gr-iridium / iridium-toolkit

Hello guys, did anyone ever managed to install gr-iridium / iridium-toolkit on a windows machine. I've been trying for the last 6h and it has huge dependancy issues, and the github does not recommend windows, so just to know, since I don't have a dual boot laptop, only WIndows. Thanks !

Coffee Game in Hong Kong

Hi guys,

been in HK for 4 months now. I'll do a quick recap on the local roasteries/coffee shops (Hong Kong based) I've been too as well as a review.

I almost only drink pourovers when I go to a specialty coffee place alone, so keep that in mind. Also, most great coffee places in Hong Kong serve Australian type brunch (for most profit I guess, since I think typical Hong Kongese people are not educated on coffee and go there to eat) , so if you go on weekdays, do not go around the lunch rush, and on weekends, try in the morning, close to open, since sometimes they don't want to make pourovers when the place is full of people eating.

  1. The coffee academics (went to the Harbour City Branch in TST). The place is cosy, lot of sunlight as well with the big windows. Staff is nice. There is also a shop with a lot of materials and roasted bean bags, so great. Coffee is really great as long as you take a funky coffee (think natural and anaerobic coffees, and their experimental process, like the brandy/whiskey fermentation). I tried a few one of their washed coffee (even a panama esmaralda 90+), and their brewing technics is not adapted for these delicates and flowery notes.
  2. N.O.C (TST branch). Place is terrible, almost like a lab or hospital. Staff is nice. Great variety of coffee, they have this system of 2 cups, one for depth and layers, one for body and sweetness, great to compare. They have a selection of beans that change a lot through time, and they got a lot of competition experiments (like this costa rica don eli farm with the 3 triple anaerobic fermentation by tetsu kasuya, with the 3x An. Washed, 3x An Honey and 3x An Natural). The coffee is more on the complex side, so go for washed there, as even their natural brews are mostly clean, sour, delicate and flowery.
  3. Espresso Alchemy (Mira Branch in TST) Place is extra cosy, my favourite. Staff is wonderful, I suspect the head barista to be the roaster, since he is the only one making pourovers with high precision. Small coffee selection, but top of the notch. Really delicate when drinking them hot, but they always get so intense when they get cold, you should try them.
  4. N.O.T (Central branch). My favourite averall. Big selection of coffees from different reliable roasters from the world (bluebird, tanat...). A lot of counter chairs, so you can sit and discuss with the barista if he is not busy. I had some fresh coffee bags I bought earlier and he made a pourover with them so that we could try it and discuss about it. The place is colorful and modern, but not so cozy (mostly due to the small space it has).

Honorable Mention, Fanny's roastery. Not a coffee shop, you can't drink here, but you can buy fresh coffee bags. Must go if you live in HK and brew at your place or go back home soon and want a bag of coffee. Small shop in Central Market, held by the sweetest lady ever, whom roasts herself the coffee (over 50 selection, perfectly roasted, exotic varieties and origins, for example a Arusha from colombia, never heard of, and some coffee from french Guadeloupe). She is with her child on sundays, whom speaks a perfect english if you have any interrogations. Every time i ask for the freshest roast, and most of the time I get a roast than happened like 3 days ago. Love them !

There you go, I haven't tried more but I'll keep this post updated if I do.

USRP B210

Hello guys,

quick context : I am trying to setup kind of a mobile ground station to measure Doppler Shift from LEO L-Band Satellites. The RTLSDR I got is the B210.

I am right now using a specialized Survey GPS antenna, I am considering going to a patch antenna, since my antenna doesn't cover the IRIDIUM Band.

I think to get enough SNR to be able to measure what I need, I need a LNA. I spotted RTLSDR v3 patch, which has an integrated LNA, but I don't think the B210 has an integrated software-controlled Bias-Tee ? If it has, do you know how to turn it on ? And if not, do you some recommandations for a USB or USB-C powered Bias ?

Thanks a lot

Pup on an adventure

Hey guys, playing survivor again, collecting pearls, after every other downpour campaign (not watcher yet, i'll do that guy when i completely finish pearls, arenas unlock, and the challenges). Got my first pup at Moon, so I'm taking care of him until I get mother, since I don't have the steam achievement yet. The adventure will be really unpleasant for him, since I need pearls of sky islands, farm arrays and outer expanse now, so quite hard regions or a child. I was hoping to drop him off somewhere, before taking him back with me to go meet gourmand at the tree.
Where can I ? Not a shelter, cause he is too immature to fetch food by himself, but can I drop him at the GW bottom toll ? They don't have vultures, or lizards.... Will they take care of him until I come back ? Do I need chieftain first ?

By the way, got ambushed by 3 black lizards near the gate shoreline-shaded, and usually, these guys are in one central room of the region, not at the extreme top east ? Is it because I have my pup, or is it like I survived enough cycles to get more dificulties ?

Thanks, and I take naming suggests
