Advice needed

We recently adopted a puppy, and he is very sweet. Smart, friendly, very attached right away. My son has suddenly developed awful allergies — I think to the puppy! Medication isn’t touching it, and I’m a mess! I’m obviously worried about my child, but I’m also worried about this puppy who has done such a great job fitting into our family life. He is only 5 months old: what would you do?

I have always wanted a setter, but my son was the driving force behind getting ANY dog right now so I feel terrible about the entire situation, which seems designed to cause misery somehow!

We vacuum and I bathe the dog frequently already, brush him away from the house, etc. I’m a mess!

In praise of Hannah Frankson

I just got off yet another ride with Hannah Frankson, and realised I almost always prefer to take HIIT and Tabata with her. I love how structured her classes are, but she also has a great way of chatting loosely to keep you relaxed, which helps in miserable efforts. She never seems to be plugging anything or pushing you to hustle harder, she just exudes good humor and positivity. She also has impeccable cuing and great music choices. If you haven’t taken a ride with her you are missing out!

Opportunity or not?

Hi, we recently bought a house from the 1940s and are doing some work on electrical. We took down part of the walls, and the home has no exterior insulation. An addition does, but the main envelope has nothing. Would you add insulation without undoing all the wall? What are the risks? We don’t want to re sheetrock the whole house but it seems like an opportunity to add a bit of heat efficiency. What are risks? What are options?

Puppy poops and pees every time he is crated without me in the room.

Subject kind of says what the problem is, I feel sure I’m just not seeing a simple solution here. 14 weeks, we have had him ten days. I cannot crate him without him pooping everywhere. He is very resistant to going outside, but he also “holds” it until he is crated and poops everywhere. I am losing my mind with stress!

The poop feels like a stress response. Tonight, I walked him for an hour around my neighborhood, then put him in his crate while I went to put the laundry in, and he pooped everywhere! This is clearly a stress response but I’m losing it! I can’t tether him anywhere he can see me when I’m doing laundry, and I’m sure he is afraid. He can hear me and I talk to him, but no use. Poop city: population me!!

I have to get back to work soon, and I can’t safely leave him at home without having a poop encrusted puppy when I come home. I haven’t left him for more than five minutes and he is covered in poop every time! He is also beginning to feel tense about baths after poop because it’s happening SO MUCH, I can’t just wipe it off his feet, it gets everywhere. I feel trapped, and worried we will never get him to be confident in a crate. My house smells like poop and I did six loads of laundry today alone!
