Best Memory for Writing

It seems safe to say that most on Reddit believe the best AI writing platform is either ChatGPT or Claude. Opinions disagree after that. I’ve been a fan of both at one time or another and respect the differing opinions. Personally, I think using both in the right way is the best approach. Whatever the case, however, there’s one conclusion I’ve reached that I feel is not open for argument anymore. Char GPT’s memory in a single chat thread/context window is vastly superior to Claude. I’m not sure when this happened, but I’ve found Chat GPT’s memory to be exceptional even in long threads. And it doesn’t matter if you’re in a Claude Project or using the Chat GPT Library.

Made full shift from Claude to ChatGPT

I use AI in writing for brainstorming and editing. I manage the art--the storyline, drafts, and scenes are fully mine. For months, as I worked on my outline, Claude was my go-to. Sonnet and Opus 4.5. Even Opus 4.6 acted as a good high-level editor. Since those models disappeared, Claude hasn't been the same for creativity and writing. I've gone to Sonnet 4.6 Medium Energy/Thinking Mode. I even started noticing it was simply making mistakes, and sometimes not acknowledging the mistakes. Meantime, ChatGPT 5.5 has, in my opinion, gotten much stronger at the type of editing assistance I look for. I kept hesitating to make the final switch, but after finding Claude acknowledged three significant mistakes today, I decided Chat has to be my go-to now. I'm going to still use Claude as a second pair of eyes for the moment, and see. I may finally decide it's not worth it and just abandon Claude after almost a year of relying on it. The bigger Anthropic gets, the less I've liked it. That really isn't a surprise. I am surprised I've come around to ChatGPT.

Claude v ChatGPT Long-Form Fiction

It was always hands-down Claude for me. No more. Claude has changed. It ended with Sonnet and Opus 4.5. I gave up on Claude for around two months when Anthropic was down routinely and then models began disappearing rapidly. I finally came back to try it again, using Sonnet 4.6 Medium Energy No Thinking. I do think it remains good at editorial overviews. It seems to have lost most of its prose creativity, however, and its personality is at best slightly warm, whereas it used to have a high EQ. And I don’t use AI to write drafts for me. I look for insights and polishing. Meantime, ChatGPT, which I used to find little value in, now impresses me. 5.5’s creativity and prose as well as its insights are far better than Claude. And it’s far warmer. A complete reversal I never thought I’d see. I just upgraded my CGPT subscription I’ve been using it so much, and I’m considering ending Claude’s. T

Best Writing LLM Now?

I was a big Claude fan but with the significant changes it has undergone, I am questioning if it is still the best LLM to support serious fictional writing: brainstorming, editorial review, etc. Not creating the art, but supporting it, like a good assistant might. Over time, I experimented with ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, and Perplexity, but always stayed with Claude. I also looked at niche writing platforms. I’m no longer certain Anthropic hasn’t significantly impaired Claude’s creativity “gene.” I welcome and appreciate thoughts and suggestions.

In the middle of a long project with Cowork, Claude goes down-AGAIN. I’m abandoning Anthropic for my important projects. It’s become far too unreliable. It’s a shame, because they have a good product, when it works. The company is clearly distracted and overwhelmed with lots of things having nothing to do with day-to-day performance for its customers.
