It is genuinely just embarrassing that people are making all sorts of conclusions from a meaningless game
Do we still need signings? Yes.
Did we play poorly yesterday? Yes.
But, it is absolutely stupid to draw inferences from that game and conclude we are going to be poor in the actual season. It shows you really haven't been following United for a while.
Pulled up some results over the years for you lot.
1996/97: Lost heavily in preseason to Inter and Ajax, then went on to win the Premier League.
2007/08: Lost 3–2 to Inter amid talk of defensive problems, then won the Premier League and Champions League. Also, lost to Al Hilal in a mid season friendly.
2010/11: Lost to 10-man Kansas City Wizards in preseason, then won the league and reached the Champions League final.
2001/02: Won five of seven preseason games and scored 30 goals, then finished third and trophy-less.
2014/15: Went unbeaten in preseason and beat Real Madrid and Liverpool, then finished fourth and trophyless.
2019/20: Had an excellent unbeaten preseason, then struggled badly through the first half of the league season.
