Apple Silicon MBP Users - Do Your Fans Spin Up?

Hi. Former Mac Studio M2 Max owner here (32GB)

In the 3 years I’ve been using the studio, creating some fairly heavy Logic Pro sessions, etc, working in a quiet room, I don’t think I’ve ever heard the fans fire up. The machine is a beast.

Back when the M-Series came out I was investigating what to buy, and I recall various threads in which people were praising the M1/M2 MBP’s for the same thing. In fact, the MBP’s were often cited as “whisper-silent”, and people were specifically saying the fans never spin up even under heavy load.

So obviously we’re a few more generations in to the silicon series. I just swapped over to an M5 MBP and upped the RAM to 48GB. I’ve only had it a week, but
twice now, I’ve caught the fans spinning up like it was struggling.

One of those occasions seems to be due to a menu-bar app called Freespace, which really doesn’t seem to like Tahoe (I know the feeling), but another time was when opening Logic Project.

So now I’m curious. Is this simply something to be expected occasionally, despite the M5 chips being so much more powerful than the M2’s and my RAM going from 32-48 GB? Could it be something to do with the removal of Rosetta? Or should I be running some tests to check the hardware is working as expected?

I mean, it’s not the end of the world by any means, but it has surprised me, so I thought I’d check to see if it’s an expected thing.

Looking for a collaborator/partner (vocal-led EDM)

I admire artists like CamelPhat, Calvin Harris, Duke Dumont.

I love writing & I have lots of demos/song-starters but I struggle with mixing so I’m looking for someone who’s the reverse (or a good top-liner).

The music in the video should give a general idea of where I’m at. I’ve stripped out the hooks (I’ve had stuff stolen before).

All the music **is original, human-written** - most has been run through AI to give a better idea of intended direction but stay close to the original demos. Top-lines used here are a mix originals, sampled phrases, and placeholder vocals.

If you’re interested, please link me to some of your stuff (publicly or via DM). I’m looking for genuine collaboration. Offers to “mix [n] songs for free” are appreciated but not what I’m looking for.
