This image from NASA’s Aqua satellite shows smoke covering much of Indonesia and Malaysia on September 1, 2026. Red dots have been added where the satellite’s MODIS instrument detected thermal anomalies indicative of fire.
Not sure if this will affect Brunei. It's already affecting Singapore and Malaya.
Economic diversification has been a stated goal of national policy since the Second National Development Plan of 1962 to 1966.
Not 1984. Not Wawasan 2035.
They are doing their 25th anniversary world tour in 2027 with legs in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, HK, Taiwan, Macau, China. But Brunei is not in the list.
Imagine new Sultan comes to the throne. After a year of celebration and festivals and Visit Brunei year 20XX, he decides to make changes. Blue screens the boomer ministers, put in younger ministers. Slowly redirects the budget to health, JKR, etc. and away from non productive ministries or to miscellaneous. Sells off one or 2 of his planes, opens a museum for the famous cars with expensive entry fee for non-Bruneians, but affordable to Bruneians. Upgrades the public transportation network and then increases import taxes and road taxes on private vehicles. Get rid of the laws that hurt business and the economy - celebrations, concerts, non-religious decorations allowed.
Do you think the economy will grow? Or do you think the boomers will revolt behind the scenes and put an end to that?
Remember to spend time with your families and enjoy all the festive foods.

🚗 BRUNEI NO. 2 IN THE WORLD IN CAR OWNERSHIP? 🇧🇳
Did you know that Brunei is the 2nd highest country in the world in terms of the number of cars owned relative to the population?
For every 1,000 inhabitants:
🥇 Puerto Rico – 895 cars
🥈 Brunei Darussalam – 791 cars
🥉 Luxembourg – around 790 cars
For comparison:
🇲🇾 Malaysia – around 417 cars per 1,000 inhabitants
🇮🇩 Indonesia – around 59 cars per 1,000 inhabitants
This means that Brunei has almost 1 car for every inhabitant, a very high figure when compared to most other countries in the world.
The main factors contributing to this situation include relatively low fuel prices, a good road network and the people’s reliance on private vehicles due to limited public transport.
The question is, is this large number of vehicles a sign of progress and ease of living, or does it indicate that Brunei still needs a more efficient public transport system for the future?
What do you think? Does your family have more than 2 cars? Share in the comments
