Kids fishing the koi pond in Balboa park
I hoped this is AI but it doesn't look like it. The more I watch the more real it looks.
I hope these kids who were dumb enough to post their faces are fined.

My dog Floyd is a 13-year-old neutered male Chihuahua mix with a chronic bilateral eye disease that started in late 2021. It began as redness and irritation in both eyes and has progressively worsened over the years.
Since then, he has dealt with:
- Chronic corneal inflammation/scarring
- Corneal pigmentation and vascularization
- Recurrent superficial corneal ulcers
- Suspected pannus/immune-mediated keratitis
- KCS (dry eye)
- Elevated eye pressures/glaucoma
- Chronic eye pain and flare-ups
He’s had multiple Schirmer tear tests, tonometry checks, corneal stains, and ophthalmology consults over the years.
Long-term meds have included:
- Latanoprost OU BID
- Tacrolimus OU BID
- Prednisone/Pred acetate OU BID-SID
I stopped seeing the ophthalmologist after a recent recheck for “superficial” ulcers because they advised me to discontinue tacrolimus but continue prednisone. I work in vet med, and that recommendation concerned me since steroids on an active ulcer are generally contraindicated. After discussing it with the doctors and coworkers at my clinic, I discontinued the prednisone myself.
His eyes have only improved minimally since that ophthalmology visit. One of the vets I work with has been helping me manage him and has been great.
Current meds:
- Latanoprost 0.005% OU BID
- Ciprofloxacin OU TID (switching to NeoPolyBac due to irritation)
- Serolube OU BID
- Starting Cyclosporine OU BID
- Optixcare lubricant before bed
- Short course of Metacam for discomfort
Recent diagnostics:
- STT:
- OS: 16
- OD: 10
Current concerns discussed with our vet:
- Concurrent pannus + corneal ulceration
- Chronic inflammatory corneal disease
- Dry eye/KCS
- Possible indolent/non-healing ulcers
- Exposure irritation
Recommendations so far:
- Reduce UV exposure
- Consider Optixcare EMS/autologous serum
- Possible corneal cytology
- Possible keratotomy if ulcers remain non-healing
I’m mainly wondering:
- Has anyone dealt with a chronic case like this?
- What treatments actually helped your dog?
- Any veterinary ophthalmologists here with thoughts on management or things worth discussing at tomorrow’s recheck?
Not looking for diagnosis over Reddit, just experiences/opinions from people who have managed severe chronic eye disease cases.
