Were designs underneath the caparison a thing? Is this plausibe? If so how exactly were caparisons made and how did such designs be implimented underneath the caparison?

I've seen examples of horse trapper/caparison divided from the front to the rear in the middle, but never from side to side. Is there evidence of this happening?
