Ryan Briscoe's first IndyCar win

On the cooldown lap at Milwaukee on 1 June 2008, Ryan Briscoe celebrates his first of eight career wins. Kodak was a sponsor on that car, and I was using a Kodak Z712 digital camera for this shot.

He almost didn't win this race. With less than 3 laps to go, a three-car accident in turn 2 happened right in front of him. Vitor Meira was launched airborne over Marco Andretti's car. The race ended under caution.

Back then, fans in the infield had a close-up view of the track in turn four - perfect for taking photos. Nowadays, there is a tall fence in the way.

Seeing the throw-back livery at Gateway made me remember this photo, and it took me a while to dig through old hard drives to find it. I read that Ryan is a drivers coach for RLL this year after having the same job at Prema last year.

A tavern in Al Molinaro's hometown of Kenosha, Wisconsin, now features a life-size statue of the actor best known for his roles in Happy Days and The Odd Couple.

Other famous Italian people who have come from Kenosha include Daniel J. Travanti, Don Ameche, Mark Ruffalo, and Jeff Cesario.

Less than an hour to the north, a statue of Henry Winkler known as "the Bronze Fonz" stands next to a river in Milwaukee.
