Final game 6th grade

Well my 6th grader who says he now “loves lacrosse “ had his last game of the season today.

I think he touched the ball about 15 times this season . He ran around , didn’t seem to give a crazy intense effort but just sort of hung out. He has a very good team and he’s clearly one of the least talented guys on the team. After the game he asked to go get a “custom stick” at a Lacrosse store. I am at a loss. I cant fathom spending money like that when he’s sort of just coasting along.

I posted on this thread before about him not getting passes in games and a few boys on the team carrying his team. He seemed to get over it and was ok to just play the last few games in neutral.

I’m fine supporting him and he wants to go to lax camp but I’m just not seeing it. I was a baseball guy.

Original post below. 7 games in this year and last week might be the end for my guy. .

He’s played 2nd/3rd line midfield the last few games and he hasn’t touched the ball outside a ground ball. I mean there are just a handful of boys on the team who will not pass to him and a few others. I’ve watched a few practices - he is involved and looks to be doing well in drills. He asks me to play catch at home and shoot. He seems to be catching in practice.

One of the boys on the team told him after he told him he was “open” that he has to “move around more “

Got in the car on Sat after a 6-4 loss and said I’m done. Nobody passes me the ball I don’t want to play anymore. I want to finish out the season - 3 games . But this is a bummer bc it seems like a fun game to watch and play. It’s only his 2nd year but he’s unhappy

Watching my 6th graders teams for a few weeks now and while they’re winning I’m not sure how much fun my son or others are having.

This is a town travel team - most of the boys also play club. We have the 3 best 6th grade athletes on this team. One plays Defense , one middie and one attack. The ball resides with one of them 75% of the time. My son and the 14 other boys do a lot of watching those 3 play lacrosse.

Saturday night was the first time expressed frustration. I asked if he was excited for the game tomorrow and he replied “ yeah but I won’t touch the ball” I told him to play good defense, be in the right spot and the ball will come to you.

Fast forward I think he scooped one ground ball and passed it to one of the top players. We’ve won 2 games - scored 12 goals and I think they’ve scored all of them. Even when my son or others appear to my untrained eye to be “wide open” these kids just look for each other or take it themselves.

Any ideas to keep my son excited or engaged ?

*******Update. We won a game yesterday 11-6. The Fab 3 scored 9/11 of the goals.

My son played a good amount at middie and a little attack. Caught the 2-3 balls that were thrown his way and made passes to others. Subbed in at attack in the late 3rd qtr - was wide open on a breakaway but the kid made a great move and scored for us. He was happy , team won and he played a lot. Didn’t mention the lack of touches but will just keep working.

I’m 7 weeks in on 5 mg. Completely less anxious. Definitely makes my brain much “quieter” even a little numb to everything. Still dealing with some bouts of fatigue and sluggishness but this drug is working.
