Inserts not fitting?

Hello,

I have recently started cutting my own arrows. Moving from a 340 spine to 400 (draw weight change), using Easton 6.5mm bowhunter carbon shafts.

I have also purchased Easton 6.5 brass inserts.

Problem. The inserts slip just fine into the 340s. They will not fit without heat and/or force into the 400s, which concerns me as i don’t want to compromise the arrow’s integrity while adding the insert.

Am i doing something wrong? It’s the same arrow aside from the spine. Is Easton’s QC just mid and allowing for different arrow diameters? Is there a step I’m missing between cutting, cleaning out the inside, adding glue and inserting?

Shoe advice

Hi guys. I’m sure you get questions about shoes all the time, so I’ll try to be brief but thorough.

I’m a new runner (only been at for like ~2.5-3 months) but have hiked a good bit.

First shoes i ran in were Saucony Peregine 15s. I got them used at an REI and had no formal fitting (I have very wide feet and so sized up bc they had no wides). These combined with newbie growing pains had me suffering pretty badly in the first month w shin splints and arch pain, so I went to a store and got my feet scanned. I told the guy there I’d be trail running and he said none of the trails nearby were technical enough to not wear road shoes (i personally disagree now that i’ve run on them and fell flat on my face/have almost tripped a couple other times due to the amt of rocks and roots). He brought out a couple of stability shoes and I ended up leaving with some Hoka Arahi 8s in extra wide.

The Arahis fit me better than the Peregrines but i feel like the stability aspect is working against me and pushing my feet out/putting more pressure than is normal on the outside of my feet. I haven’t had arch pain thankfully but it’s like my pain has moved up and into my inner ankle instead. And i am actually scared to run when it’s wet out after taking a pretty nasty tumble in the Arahis and getting scraped all up the right side of my body.

I’ve tried the Peregrines again to see what difference the sole thickness would make and i kinda like them better for feel but i’m afraid to wear them much due to the incorrect sizing. The grip difference in the sole is noticeable and I like it.

I’m also trying to do PT exercises to strengthen all my tendons and ankle muscles in the meantime but I can’t shake the idea that I still haven’t found the right shoe. The exercises have helped a lot at least.

For my folks with wide feet who (per my foot scan) overpronate, what are you wearing? I’d love some suggestions on what to try in the coming year of running. I know everyone’s feet are different but there’s a lot out there, so somewhere to start would be nice!

Bugged Bear

TWM near crystal lake.

I shot a bear with a rifle from afar, it charged me, i shoot it w the flare gun. It runs off. I make a fire and wait an hour.

As i return to mountaineer’s house i see what i THINK is the corpse. Upon approach i hear snoring. So it hasn’t died.

I have been shooting arrows at it from behind a tree - the bear wakes up, looks around, then goes back to sleep. I’ve literally shot 3 arrows, retrieved them out of its back, shot it again, retrieve - 3 times now. It’s still not dead. Wtf? Presumably it’s bugged? Is there some way to actually kill it…..?

I’ve shot bears before, actually already killed two on this save. I’m around 50 days in. I’ve never seen this behavior before. What to do?

Trophyline Journey Sticks

I’m in the market for new sticks. I am not super well off so I am looking for a sweet spot of weight to cost (aka, no Hyperlite or One for me).

I currently run Muddy Pros. They have good bite and are easy to use but they are stupidly heavy compared to other options. I haven’t found a single stick that weighs more. Probably why they were only $125 for 4.

My current options I’m looking at are Latitude’s Carbon SS and Tetherd Skeletors (Potentially their workhorse line as well but i’ve seen mixed reviews).

In my research I came across Trophyline’s Journey model. They are reportedly only 1.55 lbs per stick which is lighter than the Skeletors by about half a pound although they are noticeably heavier than the CSS. But I can’t find any reviews. Maybe they are a brand new product? Has anyone used these? Are they simply a renamed older model? They are cheaper than the CSS at $240 for 4. But I don’t really want to drop $240-50 on something I don’t know much about.

For reference I am 220lbs so any of these sticks will bear my weight even fully loaded w gear.

Re-waterproof my merrell moab 3s

Hello. I have a pair of Merrell Moab 3s (mid cut) with the base waterproof/no goretex. I wear these to hunt. This means 80% of their use is off trail, with a good amount of crossing streams/creeks.

For their first season with me, they performed wonderfully. I did get in a little deeper than I wanted to while crossing a stream and absolutely flooded them, then had to hike several more miles with wet feet. That instance was my fault as of course if water goes above the opening of the shoe you’re asking to be wearing bowls of water on your feet. Besides that instance I’ve been careful to not let the water level get too high.

This season, I have not at any point waterlogged them, but I have noticed a slight wet sensation on my toes when crossing shallow streams. This past weekend for instance I was in water maybe 2-3 inches deep, so just barely going over the toe caps. Felt water come in.

Can I re-waterproof these? Would something like Nikwax work? I haven’t had these long enough to feel like they really need to be replaced but if that’s the case I may need some suggestions for other shoes/boots that have better long term water resistance. Comfort is important but durability means more to me given the type of abuse I plan on putting them through. Thanks :)
