Wiki Fun Fact 2 Episode 1: The New Mainpage is done!

It looks awesome. Alongside it, a Mod progression page has been made, detailing content along game progression and how to obtain it. A good way to know what the mod has available at what tier, so you can seek it out and see what you enjoy the most!

There's a Patreon now (People kept asking for one)

https://www.patreon.com/cw/CalamityFables

From the developers themselves on the discord:

As you might know, we originally planned on not hosting a Patreon page. It was intimidating and difficult for us to publish one whilst considering issues related to distribution, commitment, and management. We were content with just watching and appreciating all of the community support.
However, with so many people asking and encouraging us to use one...

We've worked towards developing a system that our team is content with, and we are happy to announce that we have now have an official Patreon page! Funds will be used to support emergencies, out-of-house development expenses, and dev compensation.

Thank you for all your sincere support! We'll do our best to match your energy and deliver quality work!

No, but really, what's Fables, and why are they removing Yharon?

I feel a long explanatory post is pretty much needed:

Fables is a reimagining of the original Calamity Mod made by a bunch of developers who left during an event you might know as "The 22", in short, a bunch (Not actually 22) of developers left december 3 2022 following distaste with the very conflictive dev environment created by Fabsol, the mod's creator and original owner. It is their vision of what Calamity is, and it's probably even close to what Calamity would have turned out to be in other timelines where Fabsol isn't an ass.

A reimagining, not quite a remake. Much (All, really) of the mod is distilled into its most basic form, and then something new is grown from those ideas. While the content at release doesn't exemplify that the best, Sunless Sea is sure to, with both a reimagined Leviathan and an entirely different Sunless Sea biome to what people would expect from the Sunken Sea. Now, let's address some questions:

Why don't you have my blorbo?

Depends on the Blorbo:

  • PBG? Plague as a whole is getting axed, the dev team does not think it's very interesting and its principal thematic element (Being an infection) is already planned to be explored indepth through the Astral.
  • Old Duke? Poop duke
  • Yharon? A bit of a misconception. We'll still have a dragon and it'll still be related to yharim. But all of our lore is completely different in general, and this dragon shares very little relation to the Yharon you know. So, really, we just want to let people know he'll be very different from the getgo, even if he's not the only boss who's going through this process!
  • Dragonfolly? Tied to Yharon in every way possible, our new lore simply doesn't have need for the concept, and thus we don't have need for the boss.
  • Exos? Draedon's Big Bossfight should be much cooler, much more original, and much more interesting than a rehash of rehashes. You won't be missing them once Fables' Draedon Boss is added.
  • Calclone: No reason to exist. There's better ways to introduce you to Calamitas, plus, Draedon's plotline will have no need for it either. This boss only exists because, when the original mod added SCal, the preexisting Calamitas was kept and turned into a Clone for it to make sense. Not exactly something we need to keep around.

What's with bosses that are returning but not as bosses?

It's a surprise. Take it as face value. They will be returning, redesigned of course, and different. But they'll be there. They just won't be bosses. They could be Anything else. Have fun figuring out what!

Why no difficulty modes?

They were Fabsol's darlings, more than anything, and the developers simply have little interest in it. We'll have Master and FTW ai changes for most bosses, although they won't be very big, they'll still add difficulty. Having no modes doesn't mean Fables isn't going to be challenging, either. We might not optimize for it, but we don't want bosses to be pushovers. Everyone loves a healthy challenge!

What about Adrenaline and Rage?

I won't ever bother with Rage because it was already a bad, poorly thought out mechanic in the original mod, and I feel most people only think about it because it's tied to Adrenaline in their heads. Regardless, no, they're not coming back, certainly not as always-present Damage Bars that fill up passively in Situations and can be used to skip boss phases. Doesn't mean we won't have mechanics like them tied to items like weapons, accessories or armors. Glass cannon mechanics are fun!

Why no Rogue?

Rogue had little identity as a class, mostly focused around stealth generation and stealth strikes. These are simply charged attacks, and are better implemented to weapons of ANY class on a per weapon basis. What's more important, however, is that adding a class is a lot of effort and a lot of content that has to be thought up and implemented to even start fleshing it out like vanilla does. We'd all prefer to put that effort into the preexisting classes. You could make a good rogue, i'm sure, but we'd simply rather strengthen everyone else
