Unpopular opinion: I actually love riding a trainer indoors

I LOVE being outside. But, after breaking both wrists in separate MTB accidents and currently in recovery from massive shoulder surgery from a ski injury, I’ve really grown to love my Zwift life. Would I rather be outdoors? Sure. But I love being able to track my progress so easily. Racing is fun. I’m not worried about mechanicals, getting hit by a car, weather, driving to a safe location, etc. I’ve done years of outdoor awesome rides and am tired of feeling ashamed of wanting to be in 😂. Anyone else? Any other Zwifties have tips on ladies meetups that are for more intense workouts? I’ve done some banded group rides and it’s nice to chat, but I’m tired of being the only woman in the big groups ride/races. Maybe I’m not seeing the right options.

Edit: thanks everyone! It’s so hard to meet anyone riding in my basement so it’s nice to know I’m not alone! I see my old group living it up outside on Strava and I have been feeling so alone.

Losing US health insurance before trip

About to leave for a 2.5 week family of four vacation to Europe. We will lose health insurance two days prior to leaving and pick up insurance at a new job about a week after we return. An ACA plan would cost around $3000 to “cover us” for an emergency during that 4 week period (we have to pay the $3000 and then hit a $6000 deductible before coverage kicks in). This plan will not work in Europe for anything there. Since we will be out of country most of that time, do we forgo insurance? Is there some weird penalty for this I don’t know about? We do have evac coverage through travel insurance. Yes, for those outside the US, this is all as insane as it sounds.

Edit: thankfully, we do have evacuation/trip cancellation etc through our Chase card but it does not include medical. Thanks for all the thoughts. Still processing the surprise loss of our regular medical while packing/sorting for the big trip so you helped get my mind in order.

Five months in to a 6-8 week kitchen remodel

Every time these people step into our home, they break or ruin something else. Every part has been done at least twice including windows installed in the wrong locations by several inches and all the exterior and interior work that goes with that. Delays have been incredible from failing to obtain permits, failure to order flooring, debates about how to fix their errors, breaking appliances at install. Flooring finished twice but still has many defects in the finish. Paint done three times and still there are sections of the wall with missing paint. We were without a functioning kitchen for 17 weeks and just got our appliances in week 18 (complete with front dents and damage to the new cabinetry during install). There was no written timeline for this project. Just an estimate of 6-8 weeks. We still owe them a considerable amount of money but I don’t want to pay anything. How would you approach that discussion? Do I have any leg to stand on if there wasn’t a timeline but the quality of work has been abysmal?

Edit to add: I really appreciate the feedback. My husband has agreed that “need to let them finish” is an endless deadline that is no longer acceptable. I set an end date in writing for next Friday and will be meeting with them that day. At that meeting we will have an itemized list of remaining work and damages with our cost to hire a competent person to fix. Our contract does state work will be done with “good workmanship” and “in a timely fashion per scope of work”. I will use this line to justify no further payments.

Favorite stretches for lower back pain?

My 13yo is starting to experience pain from her scoliosis. We’ve done schroth therapy hoping to slow curve progression but it’s been a year since we last went and the therapist retired. Anyone have favorite stretches that provide the most relief? Right now we are alternating Advil and Tylenol.

Her new doctor offered to see her but I’m not sure a $700 doctor visit is going to tell us much as she just had X-rays two months ago and has already seen her once since the pain started. I know you’re not doctors but I would love to know what works for people in the same boat.

Anyone been sued for non-compete

Asking for a friend…ten years ago he signed a three-year contract with a 7 mile radius non-compete from any location within two years of leaving. At the time they had 1 or 2 locations. Since that time the hospital has purchased many offices and the radius covers almost our entire county. I assumed it would not be enforceable due to the three year part and the huge expansion but an employment lawyer said it is and she will lose in court if they choose to sue. Anyone have experience with this? Are hospitals more likely to sue MDs? We’d love to open a practice together. Location is 6 miles from her closest office.. as far as we can get without leaving the county to rural locations far from home. We are in NYS.

Lesson to the young docs… refuse to sign. I refused at my MD/OD office and they backed down immediately.

EDIT to add: thanks for all the comments. Your line of thinking is like mine. Very hard to enforce. Too broad and far reaching to be reasonable. However, cost to fight it can still be really high. I think the employment lawyer's main point was related to cost to fight and institution known for fighting rather than enforceable. I wasn't at the meeting. I know one OD who left town due to the non-compete and one who now works in industry for the two year required gap. It is crazy that any business would want that negativity. You do feel trapped in that situation and creates unnecessary tension. Just be a good employer and they'll stay and if they have other dreams, be happy for them. Thanks again, all. Have great week.

Sagrada Familia Tickets

I apologize if this has been asked but I couldn't find my exact issue addressed.

I am attempting to book tickets through the "official website" sagradafamilia.org. I realize there are fake websites. Chase and visa keep denying the transaction. Chase Fraud department says it is a known issue and I must call the merchant directly. Anyone else have this issue? Does the official website require you to enter all your passport information?

Accommodation switch?

I thought I'd thoroughly researched but somehow missed that my VRBO in the 5th is not air-conditioned for our stay at the end of July. Do I keep it because it's a good location (at the southern end of the Luxembourg Gardens) or rebook for a hotel (specifically Hotel Ginette in the 11th/border of the 3rd)? I have a couple days left to cancel at no cost and our options are rather limited.

My husband left the coop door open last night and we lost all six birds. I’m absolutely devastated. I’ve been manually closing the last few months bc they weren’t going in at dusk until I had surgery two weeks ago and needed help. I asked if it was closed last night (as I have every night) and he said yes. I love him but I’m so mad. We were finally in a nice rhythm getting five eggs a day and sharing with the neighbors. They were the most beautiful flock of six different breeds. I’m writing here for sympathy bc I’m totally heartbroken. 💔

Edit: I so appreciate all the support. We do have an automatic door on the coop but it’s been unplugged since our youngest three haven’t been going from the run into the coop to sleep for a month or two. Our temps have been wildly fluctuating so I wanted them to have an option to get warmer. We’ve been manually closing the run door nightly and have learned a terrible lesson.

Edit 2: Serious thank you again for some many supportive comments. It’s so sad to hear how many people have gone through this and I hope it saves a flock or two with the reminder of how easy it is to forget just once. My husband is really very invested in the chickens. He built them a beautiful coop that’s he’s constantly enhancing. He just dropped the ball during what has been an incredibly difficult couple weeks for my family.

Edit 3: foxes and yes they are all gone. I’ve read all your sweet responses and I appreciate you all so much. Truly hope this helps someone save their flocks from human error.

We are planning to stay four nights in the Begur area in July. I was hoping to find a hotel but options are quite limited as I’m booking late due to an itinerary change. Any tips on finding something other than Vrbo or Airbnb as I understand the concerns from locals with too many short term rentals? We will have a car. How easy is parking near local beaches if we stay inland a bit? We will be there to relax, hike, eat in between two busy city destinations during our trip.

We have four nights available on a summer trip to France and Spain. As hikers, we planned to spend a few nights in chamonix and already have a place booked. I dropped the ball and did not book trains soon enough and prices have already skyrocketed as it's also the same week the tour is in the general area. I'm wondering about alternative alpine towns I'm not considering. The goal is moderate day hikes and relaxation between two busy city destinations. Is chamonix my best bet and I should just accept the cost or should head further south or to the Pyrenees as we are flying out of Barcelona?

Every six months, my daughter sees a pediatric orthopedic spine specialist. X-rays are obtained and we go over the details of the scan that day. We pay about $750 towards our deductible for that visit. Then, about a month later I get a second bill for around $125. This bill is from radiology for reading x-rays by two different providers. I’ve never met these people and the only time I ever read their report, it stated that the spine was normal, which it is very clearly not even to a layperson so I don’t put a lot of value in their assessment. Question is: is it normal to pay twice for the review?
