For those who work in Audit, shady practices at the firm.

How bad is it if a partner blocks the charge code to manipulate engagement economics in his favour when there was still work left to do? Im talking about 30+ hrs of work. It affects utilisation, monthly revenue reporting and the engagements economics. So because we didn’t want this to affect our utilisation, we charged time to the next years’s swift code which was ready at this point. Which again tampers the engagement economics and WIP for the following year’s audit engagement. I don’t know what this means for us but the guy is an absolute freak who is rude, cuts you off in convos and wants to be in control of every conversation. But I don’t care if I have this job or not.

I personally wouldn’t care but this absolute control freak psychopath partner messaged me the other day about something trivial, reminding me of duties and responsibilities contractually. Im tired of seeing such unethical egomaniacs get away with stuff and they have the audacity to call out on the most silly and trivial matters that don’t mean anything. Basically there are many other Managers and Juniors that have left audit teams because they don’t want to work with this freak.

Sorry for the Rant! But I would also like to clarify that all other partners I have worked with on other audits have been nothing but amazing to work with and don’t try doing the Manager’s job. I have been at the firm for 6 years now and never have been this stressed working on an Audit. Basically he’s at the point where if he presses anymore, I am willing to gather all evidence from others against him and report this guy to HR. So that noone else has to go through this abuse ever again!

Where can I do a BBQ around London?

Was planning to drive to Cambridge from London to do a BBQ at Grafham waters. But just checked online that BBQ’s there are temporarily banned.

Is there anywhere within a 1-1.5 hr drive from London where BBQs are not banned? Preferably a place that isn’t super crowded on the weekend.

Driving in Riyadh is an absolute circus

First day in Riyadh after I finished Umrah. Got a rental car and been driving for most of the day. Wallahi you guys are too much. I’ve driven in UK, USA, Kuwait, Pakistan but the way you guys drive is absolutely crazy. I thought driving in Lahore was bad but Riyadh is on a whole new level.

The speed limits are too high. There’s lots of construction and new projects in progress which means many narrow roads in some areas. But that doesn’t stop people over-speeding, rushing and overtaking in tight spots. There is no lane discipline.

But by far the most annoying thing is the lanes ending all of a sudden and before I get the chance to change lanes quickly there are people honking behind me to give them way. It surely is going to be stressful for the next few days driving in this city.

Apart from that, I am enjoying my time in Saudi Alhamdulliah. Albaik is overrated as hell. Cheap low quality broast. Al Romansiyah is the real deal. The Bukhari and Mandi are 10/10.

On another note, whats the best navigation app to use because google maps is very poor here in Saudi. I am used to apple maps but that don’t work in Saudi and heard Waze isn’t that great either.

Tawaf without umrah, how do I enter Haram ground floor?

Assalam o alaikum,

I have done umrah for the first time since last 10 years Alhamdulillah. Tawaf and getting to the ground floor indoor didnt use to be a hassle back in the day.

Anyhow, Haram security guards dont allow you in the mataf area unless you are wearing Ihram. They allow you to go to the top floor but tawaf is too long from there and its a bit too hot there these days anyway.

I asked a few people and they have said the best chance to get inside is if I come 1-2 hrs before any prayer and even then I can only make it to the first floor. I just want to recite quran inside where its not too hot and do 1 more Tawaf before leaving.

Would appreciate if anyone can share some advice on how to get to haram ground floor indoor.

BarakAllah feek!

When to wear Ihram flying from London to Jeddah on Qatar Airways

InshAllah going for Umrah soon from London.

Is it better to wear Ihram from Heathrow or best to change up at Doha airport before connecting to the Jeddah flight?

I would appreciate any advice and tips from people who have made a similar trip to Makkah from London.

JazakAllah khair

Dental treatment for tourists

Assalam O Alaikum

I am visiting Saudi for Umrah and then sightseeing in Riyadh.

In the UK, private dental care is ridiculously expensive. I got a quote for £450 (roughly 2200 SAR) minimum for tooth extraction. And that’s just for one wisdom tooth lol. I need to remove 2 wisdom tooth’s.

Will be in Riyadh for a week in July and wondering if there are any good dentists who’ll be able to do the job. And please do not be concerned about pain etc and not being able to enjoy food afterwards while travelling. That’s okay. I’ll manage it.

Are there any specific requirements for foreigners and would appreciate if anyone can recommend specific dentists!

BarakAllah feek!

Driving and Parking rules in Riyadh

Assalam o Alaikum everyone,

I will be travelling to Riyadh next month inshAllah and am looking to rent a car. Need some guidance on parking restrictions, speed limits etc. I am told parking is free in most places, there are no tolls. Are there many traffic enforcement officers on duty who are ready to fine you if you park your car in the wrong spot for 2 mins?

If it helps I am visiting from London where parking and traffic enforcement is very strict and the fines are big as well. It a nightmare here tbh. I am sure things are more relaxed in Saudi. I assume we can park for free in most places as long as there are no clear signs that say otherwise.

Any tips and insights on the driving and parking situation in Riyadh will be appreciated.

Quickest way to apply for Kazakhstan tourist visa from UK

Hi Guys,

I plan to visit one of my Uni friends from Kazakhstan in the summer. The visa application process seems a bit confusing.

For context, I hold a Pakistani passport so I will need a visa. I also hold permanent UK residency which has helped me obtain quick E-visas for some other countries in the GCC, Turkey etc. Not sure if I can also use that to obtain an Evisa for Kazakhstan. Any insight will be appreciated. Thanks!
