Saucony Triumph 23 vs New Balance 1080 v15

I'm able to get both for pretty much the same price $150 AUD.

I retired my ASICS Gel Kayano 30 early as it didn't fit my foot shape and that was causing problems.

Very happy with my only pair right now New Balance FuelCell Rebel V5. It feels very spacious in mid-foot and toe box area. Noticed it is slightly unstable after 12-13 kms during long runs so looking for a cushioned long run suitable trainer. I have flat feet and slightly wide feet.

Currently training for my first half marathon and doing 25kms/week atm.
Preferences: Good mileage & cushioning

Help me choose one please. Thank you!

Shoe for long runs

Hi all! I've been running for less than a year now. Currently training for a half marathon. Doing 3 runs a week in my NB Rebel V5's. Previously used Gel Kayano 30's and realised recently they are not a good fit for my flat feet. Blamed my legs till last month that they weren't strong enough to take the increased mileage but it was the arch support in the Kayano's which made my archs sore after runs all along.

Anyway it's been a month since I've been running in NB Rebel V5's and no issues so far (very comfortable for my wide foot). Currently my longest run is at 14kms. Should I consider investing in another shoe with more cushioning and stability for long runs or can I continue using NB's for all 3 runs?

I'm a bit conscious about buying another shoe immediately considering I had to retire my Kayano's with just 300kms on them but also don't want injure myself if that is a possibility of using the shoe known to lose the pop around 300kms.

Any suggestions on what should I do? If I have to invest in high support shoes for long runs any suggestions for that? Thanks in advance!

If it helps: I'm a very slow runner. Average pace 8:10/km. I weight about 65 kgs. Slightly wide and flat foot.

Dropping VO2 Max

I'm 31M beginner runner who only started running since August last year. I've done a 10k race (7:50/km) in November 2025 but lost consistency after until February 2026. Got back to serious running since February with 3 runs a week. Currently doing around 18kms a week. 5k + 5k + 9k long run. Increasing mileage by 10% every week(had mild plantar fasciitis so being conservative). Planning to do a half marathon in September this year. My pace has taken a toll since February this year. I initially thought it was because of the 3 month inconsistency but it is still continuing although it has stabilised now. Until last month I had to take walking breaks as my HR shoots up to zone 4 with 9:15 pace.

As of today there is improvement of being able to do non-stop run with 8:52/km with average heart rate of 130. It's winter here in Australia so I guess it's getting a bit easier to run than before.

My question is why is my vo2 max still dropping even though my mileage and pace is improving?

What other reasons could be causing this?

Should I focus on improving it or just keep doing what I'm doing with my runs and let it do it's own thing?

I do want to improve my pace and mileage.

Appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance!
