How to I be true to my characters and let them shape the story?

What I mean is that I want my story to shift and change based on my characters. I have some good ideas for the four main characters, but I’ve always struggled to really connect with them. I can plan some general knowledge about them but when I write them it doesn't feel like I really know them, and I want to. How do I get to the point where I let them control the story? Any advice on how to plan them?

Looking for advice on products for my frizzy hair!

Okay so I’m just not happy with the quality of my hair lately I just can't figure out what's going on with it! It looks so dry and flat. I’ve dyed it twice with about six months between and I haven’t dyed it since. When I was little I had the prettiest curls but they’re gone and I don’t know if they're something I can get back with the right products or not. I would love some help if possible!

For those who have lost weight, when did you start to struggle with it originally and how long did it take you to lose it?

A little about myself: I’m 5’10 20F and currently at 213. I started back in March at my heaviest weight ever 233, and really wanted to get it together. I’ve been big my whole life, even back when I wasn't fat I was just bigger than everyone else since I hit my growth spurt very early. Think towering over everyone in like 1st and 2nd grade 😭. So my family just naturally thought that I was, yknow, a little bigger.

Looking back at pictures of me then (elementary) I was definitely not fat, but I did get there. I haven't been under 200 pounds since middle school! When COVID hit I started trying to lose weight, but I had no clue what I was doing. I would go like 3 days without eating and then break on the fourth and eat everything.

At some point I was walking every morning and trying intermittent fasting. Usually, nothing lasted for more than a week or two, and I just stopped trying. So in the years during high school, I stayed about 205-215. I knew I was big but I was kinda blind to it at the same time. I come from a large friend group of people that are either pretty skinny, or whose weight sits good on them. The weight has always been heavy in my stomach and I’ve never had like an hourglass figure or anything.

When I hit 233, I had seen a picture of me sitting down and everything just hit me at once. I hadn’t realized I’d let it get so bad and I was distraught. I’d gone to the gym on and off for about a year but I had no particular diet changes or consistency. My best friend would sometimes come with, so we made a plan to go twice a week, and that really set it off. So in March we started working out 2-3 days a week, and I finally buckled down with my eating. And losing about 20 pounds in about… 12 weeks makes me feel really good. I don’t notice anything though. My family has told me they notice but I suspect they’re only telling me to get me to keep going, which I appreciate. I’ve decided that I’ll probably have to lose another 20 to see it, but I digress!! Sorry to go on and on, I’m curious about everyone else!

How long did it take you? When did you start to see progress? How did you get to where you needed to lose weight in the first place?

For those that have lost weight, how long did it take you and how long did it take to see progress? Brag a little!
