Crown Me Yours by Liv Zander
am a bit unwell. Please help. I genuinely cannot get over that ending. 😂 I’m still reeling. I even made a whole playlist because apparently simply finishing the book and moving on with my life was not an option.
This book felt like such a breath of fresh air for me, especially within romantasy. I’m notorious for DNF’ing romantasy books when they start feeling too predictable or like I’ve read the same story before, but I loved this one so much. It was short, but somehow it checked so many of my boxes.
And the ending??? It hit me to my core. I have such a weakness for doomed love stories, especially ones that end on that painfully beautiful, bittersweet note. I loved that there wasn’t some convenient loophole where someone transforms into a mortal and suddenly they get a traditional happily ever after. Their love is still there, and it still means something, but that doesn’t mean everything can be fixed.
That’s what got me. The ending is sad, but I wouldn’t necessarily call it tragic. It’s bittersweet. There’s still so much love in it, which almost makes it hurt more. It gave me that feeling of knowing things couldn’t have ended any other way while still desperately wishing they could have.
I think doomed love stories like this just hit me to my core. There’s something about two people loving each other so deeply while knowing that love can’t magically change every circumstance that gets me every single time.
Apparently, I enjoy emotional suffering as long as it’s beautifully written. 😂
I need to hear everyone else’s thoughts because I clearly cannot move on yet. Did you like the ending? Would you have wanted something different for Vale and Elara? And would you want this adapted into a show?
