two worlds. two souls.
the joy of finally letting them spin together.
for the first time, i was able to bring to figure skating an element that comes from my origins, from artistic roller skating. [this is] a way for me to go beyond what i already knew and try to merge my two souls on the ice.
i'll call it gioia's spin
gioia [t.n. literally "joy"] is my name, but that's also what i feel every time i'm doing what i love.
yesterday, at lombardia trophy, i had the honour to show it at an international competition of the isu challenger series for the first time.
i had to find a new kind of balance on the blade, get back that position and, most importantly, i had to find the courage to trust a new feeling to be able to take it from the wheels and bring it to the ice. one attempt after the other, and thanks to the people who, together with me, believed in this idea, it [finally] came true
“In 2010, I became second again. I threw the medal away, but Canadian police brought it back to me. I said it wasn’t mine.
The worst place is fourth. Bronze is a good medal, silver too. It just depends on for whom. For me, it was a defeat. And for someone else, happiness is just going to the Olympics, just performing, experiencing that atmosphere. Everyone has a different approach. Someone is happy being 300th in the world tennis rankings, while someone is 10th and wants to be first. It depends on your goals and objectives”
“What does the word victory mean? I won everything in figure skating. Victory is labor, daily work, hard work, strict regimen and discipline – then everyone will have their own victory. But you have to work hard. As I always say, you need to dream, you must have a dream. I still continue to dream today, even though I have all the medals, a family, children”
