According to reports by RIA Novosti, 13-year-old Alexander Plushenko, the son of two-time Olympic champion Evgeni Plushenko, will represent Azerbaijan in figure skating.

Sources cited by the agency say that the Executive Committee of the Russian Figure Skating Federation approved his release from the national federation. After receiving the necessary clearance from the International Skating Union, he will be eligible to compete internationally for Azerbaijan starting next season.

Alexander Plushenko, who previously competed at the first sports category level in Russia, has rarely participated in major national tournaments and is not included in the Russian national team candidate lists for figure skating.

Old statement by Evgeni Plushenko:

“Changing sporting citizenship is, of course, a personal decision for every athlete. But if I were them, I wouldn’t change my citizenship,” he said.

Tampere Worlds 2027 ticket pricing

So unfortunately it will be expensive, even by Finnish standards. Only all-event tickets will drop in the first batch next week, and you can choose between "premium" which means long sides of the rink (1245 €) or curve which means the curves (675 €). At the moment, balcony all-event tickets seem to not be available.

The information for day tickets and the "show" which we assume means the gala are behind the link, it's not cheap either. Those tickets will drop in early autumn afaik.

Benoit on working with Valieva & the new program: "This music hasn't been used in figure skating before"

Benoit Richaud summarised his work with Kamila Valieva:

"We started discussing working together back in the winter, after mutual acquaintances introduced us. for a long time it was unclear how we could make it work or how much time we would have. once i realized my schedule in Moscow would give us the opportunity to work together, i immediately contacted Kamila’s team.

Before arriving in Novogorsk, i didn’t know whether we’d be working on the short program or the free skate, so i asked Cédric Tour (french coach and musical composer) to prepare several music options in advance.

He responded very quickly, and i'm very thankful for his help. in the end, one of the options worked perfectly, and we choreographed the short program. as far as i know, this music hasn’t been used in figure skating before. it’s a very unique and powerful composition with a lot of rhythmic variation.

I think Kamila hasn’t skated in this kind of style before and it suits her incredibly well. my goal wasn’t to reinvent her but rather build the program around Kamila herself and the kind of skater she already is. we explored new ways of interpreting the music to use her body movement and the depth of her edges. it's about a skater’s evolution, some elements were completely new to her, especially the work on the step sequence. Kamila is incredibly talented and picks things up almost instantly.

Of course, we didn't have much time, choreographing the short program took us three days, but we spent long hours on the ice. we worked through the choreography and did countless run-throughs. one of the phrases i repeated the most was 'one more time!', Kamila even joked that she couldn’t remember ever doing so many repetitions or spending that many hours on the ice. it turned into a really intense training camp."

Kinda hyped, can we skip the off-season already please?

opinion on my doomed ankle

The title genuinely speaks for itself. I’ll get straight to the point here. 1 bad fall from standing and falling into a weird pistol squat caused:

  • Full AITFL tear
  • Sprained PITFL + syndesmosis
  • Partial ATFL tear
  • Sprained CFL + PTFL
  • Sprained deltoid ligaments
  • Tibial bone bruise
  • Possible peroneus brevis split tear/tendinosis
  • Large joint effusion on MRI

First 4 days I was bedridden, elevated it 24/7, and couldn’t walk. Saw sports med on day 4, got put in a boot (only wore it in public, kept elevated and stayed off it at home) and used crutches until April 30. Started walking in the boot without crutches May 1-3, then fully out of the boot after that. Tried an Air Stirrup brace later for 1 day but it arrived too late and didn’t really help.

Walking is normal now at 6 weeks post-injury. Been doing PT since May 4 (before that we only worked on hips/quads/glutes while I was immobilized). I can go upstairs normally but downstairs still isn’t comfortable. We’ve started weighted rehab exercises too.

Sports med doctor said my progress for 6 weeks is actually really good, but referred me to an ortho surgeon to better determine whether surgery is needed. He currently thinks it may still be manageable conservatively because of how well it’s healing.

Wanted thoughts from anyone who’s had similar injuries, whether surgery ended up necessary, and realistically how long full return to high-level training took. I really hope i can get back to working on my jumps (doubles, starting triples) and not fall back too much which i know may sound a little unrealistic but i honestly don’t care and will be as delulu as possible to keep myself sane 🫶

Isabeau Levito and Amber Glenn are Underrated

amber is less so underrated but I still feel like she kind of got pushed to the back when Alysa came in. But Isabeau is so underrated, I get that might be because she’s younger and doesn’t have as much skill right now as the other two but still her artistry is so good and her spins are gorgeous. Also why is it so hard to find videos of her programs? I couldn’t even find her free skate from the Olympics on YouTube. Amber too I struggled finding videos of while Alysa and Ilia are so easy to find videos on, I get that they’re both more famous for a reason and no hate at all to either of them I love them both so much and Ilia’s Gala Skate at the Olympics is actually what got me super into competitive skating. So just some love to Isabeau and Amber because they are so talented and deserve some more recognition! ❤️

Sneak peek at Trusova’s new SP

Benoit Richaud on working with Sasha:

“We had five full days on the ice working with Sasha. The music for the program was already ready, and I suggested it, but let Sasha reveal it herself. I can only say that it's more mature and sophisticated music. There's musical development in the program, but the foundation is more towards classical. Our work turned out to be very interesting.

I really liked the result, and I hope people will see that she can do more than just jump. It's interesting that in this incomplete week, we could see her open up in a new way. Some things weren't quite familiar to her at first, and she even didn't believe it - she said "no, no, this isn't my story, I can't do it". But you should have seen the final result! The skating, the way she hears the music, the attention to the glide and the edge - I think she believed in herself more. I could see it even in her mother's eyes - she was present at our training sessions.

And Sasha has an incredibly cute son. Misha is a very beautiful little boy, have you seen him? I told Sasha that he's made for movies or modeling. And he has an angelic character, he smiles all the time and isn't afraid of anyone.

In working with every athlete, I discover something new for myself, which makes me stronger and better. Sasha is a super professional, she knows very well how things work on the ice, but I think she also discovered something new for herself during these days. This was our first experience of working together, we hadn't met before. And I saw how at first she was observing me and was a bit reserved. At first, she often said she didn't quite understand what I wanted from her, but by the end of the work, she blossomed and opened up. We were on the same wavelength and could already understand each other without words.”

Skating dress debut

For everyone who saw my post where I handmade my very first skating dress, I debuted it on the ice for the very first time yesterday. I got so many compliments with people telling me how much they loved the constellations and the colour. I found two issues with the dress - arm holes are too tight and the top of the closure at the back is too loose. Other than that, no issues at all!

Everyone’s feedback was very much appreciated as I think the skirt is a little short in the back, but what does everyone else think?
