Kingmaker Rebuild

I’ve been working on a complete high-fidelity overhaul of Kingmaker, I'm rebuilding the classes, the graphics, and anything else I can think of to try and make it as compelling a game to me as Wrath is. I am using AI as a force multiplier, as it's otherwise a project far beyond what I could do alone. The visual work includes upscaled and reworked environment, ground, stone, building, character, and portrait assets; region-specific aesthetics; a redesigned interface inspired by Wrath but with its own identity; and a smoother, more cohesive visual pipeline.

I’ve also been reworking classes and archetypes, using Pathfinder's sourcebooks. I started with Occultist and Psychic, and am almost finished now with all the full casters and martial classes. I'm also designing new weapons, an armory, buildings, and eventually a custom-asset system.

The dialogue is being rewritten through a dedicated HD dialogue framework, with the goal of making the game deeper, more serious, and more atmospheric without losing its personality. On the story side, I’m developing four recruitable drake companions, a region sized Darklands map, a larger First World/Hell expansion, and additional world-map and quest systems.

The long-term goal is still a Creator Kit mod that makes this kind of work easier to build and extend. I’m treating the entire project as an experiment in how far one person can push a heavily modified game with AI-assisted development.

Wrath of the Righteous/Kingmaker Creation Kit

In my opinion these two games are some of the best crpg's that have ever been made. And, for me, one of the things that makes them so incredible is the insanely detailed and deep class system, it really lets you get invested in your characters and the mechanics of combat.

Well, it doesn't really seem like we're going to be getting another pathfinder entry from Owlcat any time soon, if ever. Which is a reality I refuse to accept. So I was thinking, what if there was a way the community could take the reigns. Turn either one of the pathfinders into the Skyrim of CRPG's. The glaring issue here being the lack of a creation kit.....

Now, I'm a complete newbie when it comes to coding, but from what I understand it is possible in principal. And think, handing the community a sandbox creation kit for these could give them a whole new lease on life. I feel like with the depth the class system has, they really are the ideal games to create something like this with. Well, minus the whole lacking a creation kit part.

So an update. I basically broke the mod into three parts. I'm upscaling all visual assets. Making each of the 8 broad area's I broke the world map up into have their own aesthetic qualities and character. And changing the look of the entire interface to be more in line with what Wrath looks like, but giving it a completely different flavor. I'm going to completely transform it into a high fidelity game to the best of my ability. I (I am using AI, this project would be completely impossible without it) am also rewriting the dialog completely, to give it a much deeper, less irreverent tone. Lastly I do plan on building this creation kit. I think it's possible. Obviously I will have to heavily rely on AI. But i programmed an entire sort of superchat for this task. It exists across like 8 gpt instances and I've spent the last 4 days explicitly defining its function and supplying it with reference material from the lord of the rings, to Ezra Pound, Dostoyevsky, all of the available pathfinder source books (a lot), and Disco Elysium for the writing. Once my first two mods are done, I'll start building the creation kit.

I know people are not fans of AI on here, and I totally get the objections. But at the very least its an interesting experiment. I was going to post a screenshot but its technically AI generated, so I left it out.

So for some context, I ended going to a rehab facility for most of March, was clean for a bit over a month, then had two relapses of a week and a half separated by about 5 days. I'm at 7 days out since my last dose, and things have been getting a bit better. The restlessness finally seems to have passed mostly, but now I'm feeling exhausted and my mood is still bad. What am I in for? Im especially worried about this because my wedding is on the 23rd of this month.
