I’m EP and I live in the UK. I have been moderating FriendsOverFifty for somewhere around a year now.

I am a huge gamer and enjoy trying different games, but I have a particular love for Fallout 76 and Minecraft. I’m always happy to chat about games, hear what other people are playing and share recommendations.

I woul like to see FriendsOverFifty become somewhere people can talk, make friends, share interests and get to know each other.

Selfie Saturday has now had its final show. The aim is not to make the community more restrictive. It is to give it an identity and put friendship and conversation back at the heart of the subreddit.

Less scheduled selfies. More conversation.

This does not mean selfies are completely banned. Selfies are still welcome, but we would like them to be part of a friendship or introduction post rather than simply being a photograph posted because it is Saturday.

If you are posting a selfie, tell us a little about yourself, what you enjoy doing, your interests, or the sort of friendships you're hoping to make. Give people something they can actually respond to.

50+ to post, everyone welcome to comment

The community remains 50+ to post. However, everyone is welcome to comment, regardless of age, as long as they follow the community rules.

We want FriendsOverFifty to be somewhere people can actually talk to one another, discover shared interests, make friends and get to know the people behind the usernames.

Posts need substance

While we want the community to be relaxed and welcoming, we also want posts to be worth engaging with.

Posts must:

• Include a body of text
• Have some substance
• Be engaging and give people something to respond to
• Contribute to conversation, friendship or discussion
• Be SFW
• Avoid being low-effort or low-quality

You do not have to write an essay. We are not asking for a dissertation before you can hit "Post".

But a photograph on its own, a one-line "Hi" or a post with nothing for people to actually respond to is not what we are looking for.

Weekly conversation Mega-thread

We also want to give everyone a regular place to simply come in and have a chat.

Each week, one of the mods will post a new conversation topic for everyone to join in with.

It might be something serious, something silly, a question about life after 50, music, films, hobbies, memories, relationships, travel, food, childhood, current life or anything else that gets people talking.

You do not have to be looking for friends

Although friendship is at the heart of FriendsOverFifty, you do not need to make a friendship seeking post every time you post.

Having a problem? Ask the community.

Need some advice? Tell us what's going on.

Want people's opinions? Start a discussion.

Have an interesting experience to share? Tell us about it.

Want to introduce yourself and meet people with similar interests? Absolutely.

The important thing is that your post has something for people to engage with.

There are already dedicated communities such as r/selfieover40 and r/selfieover50 where selfies can be shared every day.

Some updates to the r/SelfieOver50 rules to help keep the community SFW, respectful, welcoming and true to what this subreddit is about.

50+ to post
You must be 50 or older to submit a selfie. Everyone is welcome to comment.

Strictly SFW
No nudity, lingerie, provocative poses, sexual content or anything that is not suitable for a general audience.

Keep comments respectful
No insults, harassment, body or age shaming, sexual comments, baiting or attempts to upset other members.

No unsolicited DMs or contact requests
Please do not ask people to DM you or request Snapchat, Instagram, WhatsApp, Telegram or other contact details. A selfie post is not an invitation to make private contact.

No self promotion or monetised content
No adult content creators, paid services, wishlists, payment links, creator platforms or promotional advertising.

No drama
Keep subreddit disputes out of the comments. If you think something breaks a rule, report it or send us modmail and let the moderators deal with it.

No engagement bait
Posts and titles asking for ratings, validation, personal contact or deliberately provocative responses are not allowed.

Real selfies only
Your face must be clearly visible. No AI generated selfies, heavily AI edited images, stock images or photos of other people.

Posting limit
You can post up to 4 selfies in a 24-hour period. Removed posts still count towards this limit.

The goal

We want r/SelfieOver50 to remain a relaxed place where people can share a selfie, have a chat and enjoy the community without worrying about sexual comments, unwanted attention, drama or promotional accounts.

We occasionally receive questions about why a post or comment was automatically removed, held for review or approved straight away. So, we thought it would be helpful to explain how some of our automated moderation works.

Verified Email Addresses

We require accounts posting or commenting in our community to have a verified email address.

AutoModerator asks Reddit whether an account has a verified email address. If Reddit says no, the post or comment is automatically removed. This is information provided directly by Reddit and moderators cannot see, verify or change the email status of your account for you.

Contributor Quality Score (CQS)

Reddit gives accounts a Contributor Quality Score, or CQS. We use this as one of several tools to help manage the subreddit.

Depending on an account's current CQS, a post may be:

• Automatically approved if the account has the highest CQS.
• Held for moderator review if the account falls into our high or moderate CQS categories.
• Automatically removed if the account has a low or lowest CQS and is not an approved contributor.

A low/lowest CQS does not necessarily mean that you have done anything wrong in our subreddit. It simply means your account currently does not meet the posting standard we have chosen to use.

CQS can also change over time.

If your post is removed because of a low or lowest CQS, our AutoModerator will tell you:

Your account does not meet our posting standards. You can comment on posts, but posting is restricted until your account improves its contributor quality.

Pay attention to what our automod is telling you that you CAN do, these are tips on improving CQS.

Important: Automatic approval is not a permanent pass

Even when a post is automatically approved and appears publicly straight away, all posts remain subject to moderator review. If a post breaks our rules, moderators can still remove it after it has gone live.

Verification Restrictions

Accounts may be temporarily banned while the moderation team completes a verification process. During this temporary verification ban, the account cannot post or comment in the community until the requested verification has been completed and the ban has been lifted by the moderators.

Personal Attacks and Slurs

AutoModerator also looks for a range of words and phrases commonly used in personal attacks, harassment, or slurs.

When something is detected, the content may be automatically removed and brought to the moderators attention for review. This does not mean automation makes the final judgement on every situation. Moderators can investigate the context and take further action where appropriate. There is no point in arguing with the Automod….

A Few Other Automated Actions

AutoModerator can also respond to certain situations automatically, including removing comments from deleted accounts and allowing an original poster to request that their own discussion be locked using the !lock command.

AutoModerator helps us manage the community, but it does not replace human moderators.
