Meat Subsidies & Should They Go?

I was talking with my uncle the other day and he was talking about how annoyed he was that electric vehicles got subsidies for a while. I think they still do in some places. With that in mind, I brought up meat, subsidies for things like beef and chicken, for example. He was saying that government subsidies shouldn’t go to those either. We ended up talking about things like Medicaid and Medicare, and he believes that government subsidies simply make things more expensive. I’m not too educated on that, but we both came to the consensus that government subsidies should be reserved for the absolute essentials, such as gas, oil, and farming, not ranching. Well, it’s too late to ask now, I should’ve asked why he believes that crop farmers should get subsidies as well as oil.

What do the rest of you think about subsidies? I think that meat subsidies should go away personally. maybe that’s unpopular, I have no idea.

2022 Bolt EV GOM

85%-ish and about 241 miles on the GOM at 87K miles or about 140K km. A huge step from the 2019 Nissan Leaf I had with the 40 kwh battery which got maybe 120 miles on a good day tbh.

Charge to 80% 5 days a week
Charge to 100% 2 days a week followed by immediate high discharge (longer trip)

88’F outside atm, my tire pressure hasn’t been adjusted since I changed my tires to Michelin CC2s, so there?? The OEM tires were more efficient, but not worth how expensive they are. lol. Have about 16K miles on the CC2s averaging 4.1 mi / kwh although it was 3.7 mi / kwh in the winter.

Longmont Country Side Villas // New to Manufactured Homes

The gist is that me and my partner are looking into a manufactured home for next year after our lease for the apartment runs up in August of 2027 and I wanted to get your opinion for what you think and so forth.

We're aware of the fact we won't own the land and will be paying lot rent.

We're aware that a traditional mortgage might not be in the cards and that we may have to result to a chattel loan.

I'd love for all of you to tell me about your experiences, how you approached manufactured homes, and the like. What was the process like for getting a loan? What was it like getting approved by the community you're in? How often does lot rent increase?

After having looked at hundred (not exaggerating) of options, we think we're pretty set on the idea of a manufactured home within a mobile home community. Neither of us want to rent anymore, but single family homes are approximately 350% more expensive for comparable housing options in terms of square footage, bath #, and beds #.

If you'd like one listing as an example, here's one we looked at in person and we loved the community.

How do you explain Gout to people?

For context, I'm 5'6 and weigh about 165 lbs; I used to weigh 100 lbs more than that 19 months ago. I'm trying to lose at least another 5 lbs and I look half decent (a solid 4/10 mayhaps, idk), but Gout is a PITA. Shellfish and a flair up happens, fasting and a flair up happens, alcohol and a flair up happens, pork (specifically Wilbur) and a flair up happens, and sometimes I do everything right and a flair up still happens. Thank the people who made prednisone, colchicine, and allopurinol. When I've talked to family and friends and the like, the common responses I get are...

  1. It's because you're diabetic

  2. It's because you're too skinny (doctor disagrees)

  3. It's because you're chubby (doctor doesn't disagree and I'm working on it)

  4. It's because of all the diet drinks you consume

  5. It's because you eat plants and beans (Uncle says they're anti-nutrients???)

  6. It's because you eat meat (my MIL who is vegan)

  7. It's because you don't exercise enough (used to be true, has been vastly different the last 4 years)

  8. It's because you drive an EV (unironically from my aunt)

  9. It's because Asians are predisposed to it

These are some of the top examples I could think of that I've heard in the past 7 years from family and friends. Some of them are funny and some of them are frustrating to hear. I usually tell them it's about Uric Acid buildup and the body's inability to appropriately process the buildup resulting in crystalline formations. Maybe my answer is too technical and maybe it's flat-out wrong, but I'd love to hear what y'all think.

Manufactured Home Community Opinions

What does everyone think of the manufactured home communities in Longmont? I know you don’t own the land, the financing potentially looks different, and the lot rent runs over $1,000 a month. So, what I wanna know are others opinions what they think about them. Considering a community in East Longmont between the main body of Lomgmont and Firestone as well as one towards the south end of Longmont. According to Zillow, the neighborhood down south is Southmoor. One of them is Country Side Villas or some such, I gotta take photos of the entrance signs next time I drive thru. That said, what do y’all think? Financially, it’s more doable than pretty much any single family home in Longmont that I’ve come across at the moment.

If you want a specific example, one down south is

1400 S Collyer St Lot 292

I’d love to hear everyone’s opinions. If a townhome or single family home works in the future, that’d be preferable. My partner doesn’t want to do a condo, but also doesn’t want to rent forever. She wants to be able to decorate a lot more which a manufactured home will allow for that a townhome might not allow for. This is far out into July or August of 2027, so nothing soon, but it’d be nice to get people’s opinions if we could.

Should Speed Limits be Abolished? (Among other driving nuances)

What does everyone think? Off to bed a minute, but from my post earlier, it’s clear people have stromg feelings about speed limits. While there is no legal exception to exceeding the speed limit and it’s also true that it is both safer to follow the flow of traffic as well as legally obligated in relation to impeding traffic, it seems the speed limit is simultaneously necessary and yet arbitrary. Sorry for the terrible, run-on sentence. There’s a lot of nuances to driving and I wish more things were enforced. While I’m a huge proponent of driving the speed limit myself, I don’t care if others speed or overtake me or pass me or even tailgate me tbh, do what you want as long as you take responsibility and have some level of emotional control. This said, I’d like to left-lane campers ticketed more frequently, I’d like to see people who do whatever they can to make passing them difficult ticketed more, and the like. All of it is kind of hard to enforce as well and we shouldn’t be so quick to use the police for everything. So, let’s start with my original question on the speed limit and what people think, then move from there. I’d love to hear what everyone thinks. If you read this far, thanks for being productive and having discourse; I appreciate everyone’s input even if they’re childish insults. :)

Driving the Speed Limit is not a Problem

for whatever reason, it seems like something as simple as the speed limit is such a controversial topic. Over in my area, the cops are very likely to give you a ticket for going so much as 2 miles over the speed limit. They will, and they have, but with that in mind, it’s called a speed limit, not a speed suggestion. I have had someone in a pick up truck. Follow me home to tell me that Colorado revised statutes require that I follow the flow of traffic, but when I asked if the statue supercedes the speed limit, he called me a stupid kid. While the flow of traffic is generally going to be over the speed limit, i’m not going to drive that same speed. I have noticed a time and time again that the cops will pull over someone in that speeding group, so I refuse to be one of those people. I don’t drive under the speed limit, unless the weather demands it. So let me ask you, why is it a problem to drive the speed limit? In Texas, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, California, and 12 other states, I have driven exactly the speed limit. It pisses off everyone around me and that might have to be OK, because I cannot find a single statute in any state that provides an exception to the speed limit due to the flow of traffic.

thank you, everyone for giving me their opinions and their advice and their personal experiences. To make any clarifications, these are country roads so I’m not hogging the left lane like some of you assume. In addition, I am autistic, I could not find the actual comment itself, but I do have a notification that it is for this post. I also don’t know if posts on Reddit become almost unusable, once they get a lot of comments and like, but that certainly what it’s like for me at the moment. I wish I could respond to each and every single one of you individually, but this simple vent exploded more than I ever expected. I appreciate all of you, that includes the people who are mad at me. Love you and have an amazing weekend ahead of you! 🥳
