Great Books of the Western World

Browsing through my phone pics, I stumbled upon this - a complete second edition set of the Great Books of the Western World (and other Britannica encyclopedias) on the 2nd floor of Aurora Quezon’s house, of all places, during my family’s last trip to Baler in 2024.

It’s a shame these gems have to be hidden here, though. Perhaps it would be better if they were placed in a public library or a place where people could use them with care.

A rare sight in the most unlikely of places. Skl. 😌

From Third World to First

I hope this marks the start of a long but worthwhile read. Three decades of pure statesmanship condensed into 700 pages, from the man, LKY, himself.

It’s been a while, Amici…

When I was little, our family ritual was always to eat at Amici after hearing mass at Don Bosco.

Years have passed since then, so it came as a surprise when, all of a sudden, I went home to this. Apparently, it came from a thoughtful relative.

Al Quattro Formaggi (four-cheese).

Thanks for reminding me of my childhood. ❤️

Quick Sunday Visit to D'Baristroe

This is slowly emerging as one of my go-to coffee spots in Alabang. Their food looks good, too, although I've only tried their grilled cheese sandwich (decent). Di matao, peaceful, and coffee is just the way I like.

Has anyone else tried it here?

📍BLOC 10, Filinvest Corporate City, Corporate Woods Ave, Alabang, Muntinlupa, 1781 Metro Manila

Edit: I forgot to mention that D’Baristroe’s minimum spend for parking validation is Php 500; with this, the parking fee is the typical Php 50. Otherwise, you have to pay Php 200. I’m just not sure if the Php 500 minimum applies to all establishments or if it varies depending on the place.

Medjo bummer lang, but oh well.

Never look at memory the same way

I’ve been wanting to read this book since last year but never found the time. Part of the reason why I bought it was to understand how memory works in the hope of improving my own. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised.

The book follows the story of the author and American journalist Joshua Foer as he covers the world of memory buffs, filled with geniuses, savants, and eccentric personalities. In the process, he unwittingly becomes the United States Memory Champion.

A great read indeed for all those who’ve wondered how memory works and for those who have ever taken it for granted. Although it felt draggy at times - specifically when the author takes the reader through his thought process and memory techniques (e.g. using memory palaces) - one thing’s for sure: you’ll never see memory the same way again.

Quick Muji Run + Got to Catch the Alabang Sunset

I don’t know about y’all but the South, Filinvest City in particular, will always be home for me. It’s just so peaceful (relatively) and laid-back and I can’t imagine myself living in other, busier cities like Makati, BGC, or QC.

Happy mid-week, everyone!

A perfect solo evening: Toy Story 5 x Jollibee

After a long and draining semester, in which I didn’t have much time for myself, I decided to go out of the house tonight for a quick change of scenery. So, I watched Toy Story 5.

Felt hungry afterwards, too, so I grabbed a quick bite from Jollibee where I had myself the 2-pc. Burger Steak Supreme, no less, and a Cookies and Cream Sundae, to boot.

Maybe all it took was a little bit of perspective to enjoy the simple things again.

The only Pixar franchise I’ll never get tired of - check.
The only fast food chain I’ll never get tired of - check.

It doesn’t get any better than this.

Spotted new car rental businesses coming to Festival Mall - thoughts?

Spotted this in Festival Mall today. Interesting to see new car rental services opening up here. Has anyone used them before?

So glad I found this community

Just recently got back into using Reddit and discovered this community. Can I just say how reassuring it is to find other individuals who are also into solo flighting?

In a way, even if I don’t feel bad about being alone (hence why I solo flight), seeing other people do it makes me feel less alone, or at least less different about wanting to be alone.

That said, I just want to share one of my go-to spots, which I think people in the South would know: Commerce Center.

It’s a boutique mall with barely any people every time I am there, which is a paradise for introverts like myself. It has decent restos and cafes, and it's perfect if you are just looking for a quiet place to think and chill.

Resto/cafe in photos: Sigekiya & Coffee Syndicate.

Wala lang, skl.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, all!

Minor na Feeling Major

Any tips on how to deal with "minor na feeling major" profs?
Not hating on them; I'm sure minor subjects are important in their own way. But sometimes, they really do tend to affect other more important subjects that are not only worth more in units but will also appear in the Bar.

Maybe that's just how it is.

Should one avoid them as much as he or she can, or are such profs simply part of the overall law school experience? Curious as to everyone's thoughts!

Anxious about Oblicon

Just ended finals week. While I am pretty confident that I did well on most of my exams, there is one specific subject that has me feeling incredibly anxious: Oblicon.

I don't know why, but among all the Bar subjects, Civil Law seems to be the hardest for me to grasp (I struggled with PFR last semester, too). While I do understand the law on a conceptual level for these subjects, I seem to totally freeze or forget everything the moment it’s time to actually apply it during exams. This stands in stark contrast to other subjects like Consti and Ethics, which come more intuitively to me.

Anyway, I’m just hoping I make it to 2L intact without failing anything. Best of luck to everyone else who is currently taking or has just finished finals!
