Hi everyone, I’ve noticed that many Chinese engineers or engineering students seem interested in working in the US or Europe. I’m curious to hear your perspective directly.

How difficult is it nowadays for someone from China to find engineering work abroad, especially in Europe or America? Is it mainly because of visas and immigration rules, competition in the job market, language barriers, or something else?

And what usually motivates people to leave China for work opportunities abroad?

Hello everyone, I am here for some advices

I’ve been emotionally close with a man from China for the past few years. We have a strong connection and we often talk about life and personal feelings. He can be very romantic and I genuinely believe I matter to him.

Buy recently we had a conversation that left me conflicted. These years he often told me his wish was visiting me and he often flirted with me. But he is struggling financially so he always postpone the meeting with no clear plan.

He talked about how difficult reality feels lately, especially financially, and how hard it would be for us to meet. I told him I still have intention to meet him in the near future, and if necessary I will go to visit him.

What confuses me is that his feelings sound sincere, but his attitude toward making things real feels hesitant and pessimistic.

Am I risking getting hurt? I don't know how chinese men act when they are serious with a girl.. especially if we currently live in different countries. Is this a lack of real intention? We don't even talk everyday but we keep in touch. Vedi meno

Ciao a tutti, scrivo qui su reddit per cercare consigli concreti su come muovermi alla veneranda età di 28 anni.

A 20 anni volevo partire all’estero, ma i miei erano contrari. Non avevo interesse per i corsi di laurea disponibili nella mia città e allo stesso tempo, non mi era nemmeno concesso di studiare fuori sede. Alla fine tra vari fallimenti e un periodo pesante di depressione dovuto alla sensazione di essere ferma, a 24 anni ho scelto di iscrivermi a un'università telematica in lingue (cinese e inglese). Negli anni ho fatto lavoretti saltuari nella ristorazione per mantenermi durante gli studi universitari. Era l'unica cosa che ero in grado di trovare vivendo in Sardegna.

Mi sono laureata, però oggi mi ritrovo senza una vera esperienza professionale concreta oltre alla ristorazione. (dove non voglio più metterci piede) Ho fatto solo un breve tirocinio online post-laurea in ambito marketing/social media collegato alla lingua cinese.

Come ho detto prima, in Sardegna percepisco pochissime opportunità e la maggior parte dei miei coetanei sono andati via già da tempo dall'isola. Ultimamente stavo valutando di orientarmi verso la UX Research perché mi interessa capire le persone, fare ricerca e lavorare in un ambiente internazionale, ma online leggo tantissimi commenti negativi sul settore e sul mercato saturo, quindi non so più cosa pensare.

La verità è che mi sento in ritardo rispetto agli altri e abbastanza disperata, perché non riesco a vedere una strada chiara per uscire da questa situazione di stallo.

Qualcuno si è trovato in una situazione simile? Secondo voi su cosa dovrei puntare realisticamente alla mia età e con il mio background? Sono propensa ad andare finalmente all'estero ma con la mia laurea in lingue non saprei nemmeno che tipo di master scegliere che sia in grado di darmi un reale sbocco lavorativo. Ogni consiglio è ben accetto

Hi everyone,
I would really appreciate honest opinions, especially from Chinese people or anyone who has experience with international long distance relationships.

I’m a 27 female from Europe and for the past years I’ve been very close with a guy from mainland China. We care deeply about each other and there are definitely romantic feelings involved, but lately I’ve been questioning how a relationship like this could realistically work long term.
The thing is, I don’t know how realistic a future together actually is. I studied Chinese at university and technically I could continue studying in China with a master degree, but I’m not sure it would help my career much in the long term. He also dreams of working abroad someday, but right now it’s still just a dream and not a concrete plan because of the high costs.

I don't wanna give up on him but practically speaking everything feels uncertain: visas, costs, cultural differences (I don't know if his parents would accept a foreigner especially at my age), careers, etc.
I can't see myself living in China for a lifetime only due of the fact the immigration policy is hard and currently I cannot get a job without a master degree and no real chinese language proficiency. For the rest, I love Chinese culture.
Would it make sense for me to try living in China temporarily?
