How often do you take down weeks when rebuilding mileage (if at all)?

Im 24F and I primarily race half marathons and marathons, I suffered 2 pelvic insufficiency fractures this past spring that I have since recovered from (confirmed with imaging and symptomatically) I have done strength training, completed a run walk phase, I work with a PT and a dietitian etc. and Ive been cleared for a bit to start rebuilding my mileage (typically my normal mileage is around 55 miles per week and my goal is to get back to this mileage before I start training for any races). Im curious how often others take down weeks and how much you reduce your mileage by? In the past when I was rebuilding mileage after illness or just time off running I would typically build for 3 weeks then do a lower mileage week and then continue building. I am not planning to add formal speed workout in for a bit and am sticking to easy running along with my usual strength training and some cross training. Usually I run 5-6 days a week and sometimes I will have 1 day of cross training, I always have 1 full rest day. I will typically double a couple times a week. Im just curious about how others structure their training when rebuilding mileage but not specifically training for anything.

Edit: I forgot to add, when I was initially recovering from the acute injury I was aqua jogging and then biking and using the elliptical once cleared, I had 12 weeks fully off running before beginning a return to run program. During my time off from running most weeks I was doing around 8 hours of cross training which is a little lower than my typical training volume, I recently took a couple weeks fully off while recovering from an unrelated surgery but prior to that had been running just at a very low volume.

Taping a dangler G tube

I got my G-tube placed 3 weeks ago, its healed really well and Im not having much pain or discomfort with the tube itself but I cannot for the life of me figure out a good way to secure it. I have tried 4 different types of tape and none of them stay on my skin, ive tried griploks which are ok but they start peeling off almost immediately even when I use skin prep, I dont know what im doing wrong. I want to be able to be active but I need to be able to get it to stay in place, any suggestions? I order AMT cinches to try.

G tube stoma cleaning routine questions

My G tube was placed 2 weeks ago and im wondering what other people do to keep their stoma and the area around it clean and prevent irritation. I spoke with my surgeons office and was kind of overwhelmed with all of the different recommendations. I was given wound wash to use for the time being while it heals and im careful to make sure its dry especially after showering or sweating. I keep split gauze on it at all times. I guess my question is: do you use a gentle soap to clean it or stick to a wound wash/saline? Do you use any type of barrier cream? When do you use triamcinalone? If you use barrier cream and or tramconalone do you use those only at night or all the time? How do you prevent irritation from sweating? I appreciate any recommendations! It seems like a lot of trial and error.

Trying to figure out if this discomfort is normal or an infection

I want to start this by saying im not asking for medical advice and will be seeing my surgeon tomorrow but im curious to know if other have experienced this and if im right to worry about infection or being paranoid. I had a G-tube placed 2 weeks ago, ive been healing well, I was very sore for the first 4 days but by 1 week post of felt pretty good, this past weekend I was pain free and not taking Tylenol or anything, however, I had some minor irritation around one of the sutures (which are scheduled to be removed tomorrow), over the past 2 days Ive had increased pain especially around the suture and ive had some clearish pink fluid oozing near the tube and a little bit of what looked like pus (this is why im concerned about infection). Ive been back to taking tylenol but ive also had this pain that comes in waves that feels like an intense side stitch and I dont know if it is related. Ive been trying to keep the site clean and dry as directed but it gets kinda crusty and now in having pain while cleaning it. Did other people have their pain go up and down while healing?

Edit: I havent had any fevers or anything like that, im also wondering if some of the pain is due to me doing more and walking more.

How long until I can return to running post G-tube placement

Im having a G-tube placed on Wednesday, my surgeon said I will hopefully only need to be in the hospital 1 night before going home. Im a runner and typically very active, im wondering how long it took other people to return to running and normal exercise post tube placement? My surgeon said its pretty variable depending on how quickly you recover etc. The plan is to get switched to a low profile tube around 6 weeks post surgery and he said that will likely be more comfortable to run and exercise with but im wondering if other people waited a full 6 weeks or were able to exercise before that. Thanks!

PEG placement

Hi! Im 24 and am having a PEG placed in a week and a half, im also having some other minor stuff done at the same time. I have some questions about the recovery, Im about to start my 2nd year of medical school (I go back about 3 and a half weeks after surgery) will I still be in pain by then? I usually carry a backpack at school will I be able to do that? Ive had a few abdominal surgeries and those took me awhile to recover from. After my Nissen I was out of work for a week. Im also curious about how long it took others to be able to drive after surgery? My surgeon is out of state (he did my other surgeries and my main hematologist is at that hospital) so im not sure how long ill need to stay in the area (Ill be admitted for 1-2 nights post surgery). I appreciate any tips! Is there anything I should get in advance? For my other abdominal surgeries I made sure to pack shirts that buttoned in the front since they were easier to put on.

Garmin not able to accurately track steps with crutches

This might be a little bit niche but im curious if anyone else has this problem. I have the garmin forerunner 265s and I currently have to use forearm crutches to walk and my garmin cant seem to track my steps. Im surprised because I feel like my arms move more with crutches than when walking without them. It seems to miss a LOT of steps, for instance, yesterday I went to classes, walked around campus, ran some errands and then went on a walk, it wasnt a crazy amount of steps but based on my normal step counts for days like that I would estimate it was between 6000-8000… my garmin tracked 1200 steps. Does anyone know if theres a way to get a more accurate step count while on crutches?

How am I gonna recover from this

Im 24F, ive posted here before, I have had POTS for over 10 years, Im very active (running, skiing, biking, hiking, etc.) and would consider my POTS to be well managed, however, I have some other complicated health issues impacting my lungs, GI tract and platelets. I have been in the hospital for 11 days after getting sick and going into respiratory failure due to my lung disease. I was pretty much bed bound for the first week or so and now am slowly moving more. I have lost a ton of weight and a ton of muscle and I just feel like I have no idea how to come back from this. For reference leading up to this I was running 50+ miles per week, I had just run a 1:37 half marathon, im a full time student, I strength train. This just feels like its going to set everything back a million miles.

Im hoping to go home soon. I think my first steps are gonna be to see my PCP who knows me well and see what her thoughts are. Im probably going to reach out to my physical therapist. Any suggestions? I just dont know how to come back from this it feels like such a long road ahead.

Frustrated

Im a 24 year old woman with osteopenia and im so frustrated because I feel like im doing everything right but its kind of outside of my control. For some background I have a complicated rare disease that impacts my lungs, platelets and GI tract primarily, I have had to be on high dose corticosteroids for very long periods of time which has destroyed my bones, I have also dealt with malabsorption and malnutrition, I deal with vitamin D, vitamin K, vitamin B12 and iron deficiencies despite getting high amounts in my diet and being on supplements. I work with a sports endocrinologist, a dietitian and many other specialists. I lift weights, im a runner, I do everything my specialists recommend but I recently ended up with 2 pelvic fractures and Ive previously had 3 femoral stress fractures, a calcaneus fracture and 2 foot fractures. Its just so frustrating and I dont know what else to do.

Dont make this mistake

Im 24 and Ive been diagnosed with FAI (CAM and Pincer) and a labral tear for over 10 years, its been well managed with physical therapy, im a distance runner and a few weeks ago I started having pretty bad anterior hip and groin pain on the left, I immediately called my PT, primary care and sports ortho and based on my symptoms and my PT eval we all agreed that it seemed like my FAI and labral tear were causing the pain but because I have osteopenia (from meds for lung disease) I pushed to get an MRI to make sure there was nothing else going on. I get the MRI... 2 hours later they are calling to tell me that I have 2 fractures in my pelvis. Me and my doctors were SHOCKED. I saw my ortho specialist the next day and was put on crutches for a couple of weeks, were letting the fractures heal and then they are going to reevaluate what to do for the FAI and labral tear but man I was NOT expecting this. Im just glad I asked for the MRI even though I really didnt think I had any fractures.

Fracture recovery and aqua jogging

Im a 24F, I was in the midst of training for my 4th marathon, hadnt had any crazy changes in mileage or anything like that but unfortunately I had some sudden onset pain, I immediately called my doctor and PT, got in for an MRI and was diagnosed with 2 fractures in my pelvis, obviously that sucks, I immediately deferred my race registrations and am obviously not doing any running. I had a long appointment with my sports ortho and my PT and apparently based on the locations of my fractures they expect me to heal really well and thankfully I do not have to be non weight bearing (im on crutches for 2-3 weeks then back to walking), however, what I wasnt expecting was that they want me doing a decent amount of cross training, strength training etc. to maintain/improve muscle strength and help with blood flow. The specifically are recommending biking (since I have no pain or issue with it), swimming, and aqua jogging. I have NEVER done any kind of swimming or aqua jogging before and im wondering what other peoples experiences have been? Ive been given instructions on generally how to aqua jog and recommendations for how much to do but Im just looking for general tips on how to get used to it and how to feel less uncoordinated while doing it. Im being VERY cautious and not doing anything that causes pain for the time being. I feel like im just not very buoyant in the pool and I feel like my arms and legs end up kind of flailing around.

Odds of fixing up a 20-30 year road bike into rideable condition?

Im a complete amateur when it comes to biking (im a distance runner but trying to get into biking since my partner loves it) Ive done a decent amount of biking and a little bike packing but all on a hybrid bike that I got when I was 16 (dont get me wrong its a great bike and I will keep riding it). At this point I do not have the money to buy a road bike (im a broke grad student) but my mom is the same height as me and has her old road bike in the basement which she told me I could have. She said she thinks its roughly 20 years old but hasnt been ridden in quite awhile. Is it possible to get it in rideable condition? Im not looking to race or anything I just want to be able to ride with my partner and get a little more speed than I can get on my hybrid. I believe its the Trek SL 1000. Do you think I would end up spending too much fixing it up to be worth it? It doesnt have any obvious visible damage and she never had any crashes or issues with it. Im assuming the tires and brakes would probably be in the worst shape.

Im a 24 year old woman and I was diagnosed with FAI (CAM and Pincer) and a labral tear over 10 years ago, I have done PT and had a steroid injection (probably like 8 years since the injection), I have overall done pretty well and have not had a ton of pain, its been well managed with PT. I did meet with a surgeon back when I was diagnosed but due to me having a bleeding disorder and lung disease surgery was too risky. I am a distance runner, I have run 3 marathons, a couple ultras and a bunch of shorter distance races and have been training for my 4th marathon this winter and spring, things were going really well, I typically run 50+ miles per week with zero pain or issues (and this is not an increase in mileage), I strength train and I cross train, I havent had any injuries. Well, suddenly 3 weeks ago out of nowhere I starting having pretty bad anterior hip and groin pain, to the point where it is significantly impacting my walking and sleeping and I cannot run. My first thought was a stress fracture since I have osteopenia, I went to my doctor, had scans done and it did not show a stress fracture. I went to my PT who felt that based on her evaluation this seemed like FAI, however, we cannot figure out why it went 0 to 100 with seemingly nothing provoking it, I have never had pain like this even when I was first diagnosed. I have an appointment with my sports ortho next week to see what next steps are but im so frustrated and stressed about not being able to train and potentially having to pull out of the races im scheduled for. Any ideas for management in the mean time? The other tricky thing is that I cannot take any NSAIDs due to my bleeding disorder. Ive been using ice and foam rolling but so far nothing is helping. The other complicating factor is that I have an autoimmune disease that causes inflammatory arthritis, it is mainly in my hands and wrists but now my PT is wondering if that is potentially a contributing factor.

I have all 4 of my wisdom teeth currently and all of them need to be removed (they do not have room to fully come in and are causing jaw pain amongst other symptoms). I was supposed to have them taken out 2 years ago but after being hospitalized because of my lung disease it had to be delayed and then I needed a couple of abdominal surgeries so it was put on the back burner. Well, they are now causing pain and other issues and really need to come out, however, I have a bleeding disorder, its a rare form of platelet dysfunction that has caused major, life-threatening bleeding in the past even while on medication for it. Ive obviously talked to my hematologist extensively and they are putting plans in place to try to prevent major bleeding, I will be having the surgery done at a major hospital under general anesthesia and will be admitted to the hematology floor after, I will be given TXA, and potentially DDAVP and/or Novoseven to prevent bleeding and will be given platelet transfusions if needed. Im just wondering if there are other folks who have had their wisdom teeth removed with a bleeding disorder and how that went for you. I also tend to heal slowly due to my bleeding disorder so im definitely nervous about that.
