First time sharpening a reel mower with a drill - worked better than I expected

First time sharpening a reel mower with a drill - worked better than I expected

I know most posts here are about bigger gas and riding mowers, but I picked up this manual reel mower and fixed it myself.

The blades were dull and it wasn’t cutting well, so I tried using a cordless drill to rotate the reel and backlap/sharpen the blades against the bedknife. I didn’t remove the blades or use an angle grinder.

After the adjustment and sharpening, it actually cut grass really clean. For a simple old manual mower, I was surprised how well it worked.

Has anyone else here sharpened a reel mower this way, or do you use compound and do it by hand?

Clever fix for a garage door jamb that shifted after the wall was pushed in

I ran into a strange door problem where the door was snagging and popping toward the ceiling when opening and closing.

My best guess is that a car or something heavy hit the garage wall before the new owner noticed it. The bottom of the wall had shifted inward just enough to move the door jamb out of position. From the outside it did not look obvious, but the door frame was tight and the door could not move normally.

Instead of replacing the frame, I used a jack very carefully to push the jamb/wall area back just enough to give the door proper clearance again.

Has anyone else fixed a shifted door frame like this, or would you handle it a different way?

Gallons of microplastics

Found this while cleaning near the ocean and it really makes you think how much plastic breaks down into pieces too small to even notice anymore. Most people walk right past it without realizing how much is actually there. This short shows what collected microplastics can look like up close and why beach cleanups matter more than ever. Tiny pieces everywhere, mixed into the sand, shells, and waterline. Trying to remove what we can before it spreads even further. 🌎♻️ Have you noticed more plastic on beaches lately?

Preventing this to be in ocean overnight on high tide

Just walking for 2 hours in your lovely Myrtle Beach coast picked up 2 bags of trash from the sand, and bring home to sort it to properly recycle.

Please save our planet!

I was in my backyard just recording a peaceful rainstorm, capturing the sound of the rain. My goats were about 40 feet to the right of where this happened. Then lightning struck the tree - and it didn’t just burn. It exploded from the inside. For a split second it honestly looked like a bomb went off. I served in Afghanistan years ago, and that sound was instantly familiar. That deep, sudden blast - not something you expect to hear in your own backyard. Still trying to process how fast it all happened.

Has anyone else experienced something like this?

On weekends I was picking up plastic on the beach, small pieces, broken stuff, the kind you barely notice.

Later that same day I was in a store and came across outdoor furniture made from recycled plastic.

It really hit me seeing both in one day. On one side it’s pollution breaking down into micro pieces, on the other side it’s being turned into something useful again.

Glad to see at least some of it is getting a second life.
